When one faces some crisis or unpredictable accidents in life…
Disorder begins whenever I come around ^^
When you meet many of the criteria listed in the DSM for a specific diagnosis.
We all have traits of every disorder, it is only when they become longstanding and pervasive patterns, not once in a great while moments.
The best key to all personality disorders is that these types employ compulsive lying, manipulation and game playing.
If you know someone that is consistently deceptive, overly reactive to the smallest of criticisms, never apologizes, plays games on a regular basis, takes no responsibility for how their behaviors effect others, lies about big and small stuff and, in general, makes you want to tear your hair out or shoot them, odds are good you are dealing with a personality disordered person. lol
@Coloma If you try to shoot ‘them’ are you yourself coming personality disorder?
@Londongirl
I was being humorous, obviously that is not the way to handle difficult people, but, to answer your question, no. Some “victims” of these types can be driven to their own insanity.
When your personality hurts yourself and/or others [excluding the infliction of harm in defense of self or others or in the line of duty, the intended insult, or the deliberate act of self-sacrifice]..
@Coloma Just checking, that was all ;)
Disorder? Ha! You all are the ones with the disorders, face it, I’m just that much better than you.
Personality ends where Syllogism begins… Where Syllogism ends opinions become truths, and when opinion becomes truth, disorder takes over from there and people run with it head on into stupidity, war and social injustices that are mob ruled into bandwaggoning, media and commerce driven seperatism, and then we destroy, regulate due to said destruction, and then go back full circle to personality, and the entire process starts all over again out of the rubble.
Sometimes, its a fine line…a personality disorder is a mental illness. Only a therapist can know for certain, but you can educate yourself regarding signs and symptoms.
A personality disorder is one thing…Mental illnesses (If that is what we are talking about here, I’m not sure now.) LOL
…I don’t think that it “Ends and begins.” really? Some aspects of mental illness as a conditon you are born with, some are indeed hereditary, some are indeed biological, and some are environment and situation specific.
You either have one or don’t I think as well as you either control it or don’t. Although some are harder than others and some are harder than others to spot.
I think everyone has some sort of personality disorder… Some are just better at hiding themselves than others
Seems to me they can overlap substantially !
Building on what @Coloma had to say one of my grad school professors told us that you have to exhibit at least 6 of the DSM symptoms, or you didn’t have the condition. Remember, this was grad school. We had EVERYTHING (just ask us!) and we’d be diagnosing everybody we knew also!
Q: Where does personality end and disorder begin?
A: Farmville.
When it starts causing emotionally distress. For example, I worry a lot about everything. As a child and in to my teenage years this was just blamed on my personality type. “Oh, she’s just a little worrier”, my family would say. Now, however, after seeking medical help, it is accepted that I have an anxiety disorder that needs to be controlled at times.
@Leanne1986
An anxiety disorder is not a personality disorder. True personality disorders always have serious issues with lying, deceiving and manipulation. Being anxious and worrying too much is just “normal” neurosis. There is a saying I always liked when I was doing some recovery work from my personality disordered ex husband. It goes ” neurotics blame themselves, personality disordered blame OTHERS! ” haha
@Coloma I thought I answered the question wrong! I don’t think I have any kind of personality disorder so that’s a relief!!
