In her statement after that one, she explained she was using hyperbole to make a point. And it makes sense in that respect.
And what does this have to do with dictatorship?
So, anyone who engages in hyperbole should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. And thus should not be taken seriously? So anybody on the other side of the aisle who makes extreme statements, cloaked in the veil of hyperbole, should be forgiven and allowed to come back on another day when they were being a little more serious?
Great idea.
But it isn’t happening that way. It seems only certain people have the priviledge of engaging in hyperbole and getting a pass.
@saint Who would actually entertain the notion of suspending elections? You would need congress to do that, anyway.
And this is politics. When has politics ever been a friendly game of choosing between two pals?
It looks like her statements were about Congress, not The Executive office. To me that means she is saying the Republicans can keep their majority, the Dems won’t try to run against them, just fucking stop all this partisan bull shit at let’s solve some problems.
Obviously not. I doubt very highly that she was being serious, but if she was, there’s obviously no way this would happen.
I do think it’s a serious problem, though, all this never-ending campaigning really does hinder our politicians from making hard (read: unpopular) decisions that might be in the best interests of the country, but not in their own personal re-election interests.
I think some countries limit when candidates can start campaigning, well officially campaigning. Mexico has a term limit of 6 years for their President, but I think they are only allowed one term. We probably should take a harder look at the process we have, what it has become.
