Do some mothers know when they are pregnant from the moment of conception instinctually, how so?

Asked by Pele (2644points) October 5th, 2011

So many mothers have told me through out the years that they knew they were pregnant from the time of conception. They knew. How is that? If there are any mothers out there that have felt this way let me know, cause this has always puzzled me.

Strangely, even my mother “sensed” that my sister-in-law was pregnant, and my sister-in-law was only a couple of weeks pregnant with no obvious outward signs. Maybe it has something to do with the soul and energies.

I don’t know how it is, but I had this experience with my son. I just had the strongest feeling that I was going to be pregnant. I can’t say that was the moment of conception because I don’t know when the biological joining of sperm and ovum. I just know I knew I was pregnant.

@Bellatrix descibe how you felt, and how you knew…

Well, there is chemically tons of estrogen pumped out in the blood stream of a preggo. So there is a certain smell, almost floral, its def. some sort of sweet. Maybe there’s a certain kind of headache as well.

I felt that way when I became pregnant with my son. The only way to describe it was I suddently felt butterflies in my uterus for a long while after making love. It wasn’t like the regular contractions of the uterus walls. More like a millon little butterflies fluttering in there. I remember laying there for a while and I put my hands on my belly and I just knew I was pregnant. I felt different.
For my second pregancy, I didn’t feel anything but my best friend at the time looked at me and laughed as I told her that my husband and I were going to wait before getting pregnant again.
When I asked her why was that so funny. She said because your already pregnant.
I don’t know how she knew only a week in. But she said she could see it on my face. She was pregnant 3 times and said she knew how women looked pregnant. Well I kept denying it tll I could no longer.

Nope, I’ve never met a mother who said so and I didn’t either…with my second, it was two months before I found out, just because I went to get a polio vaccine and they were like ‘you can’t get vaccinated, you’re pregnant’ and I was all ‘well screw the vaccine, I’ll take my chances in South Africa.’ And so it went.

I did! No doubt about it. I just had a feeling the very next day.
I am very intuitive, and I do think many woman can just sense whether or not it was a “take.” lol

I knew a few days before my missed period, but I was trying to get pregnant. At conception I don’t see how a woman would know. The embryo is still floating around, not even attached to the mother yet. There is barely, if any, change in hormones at the moment of conception. Conception happens all the time and women don’t know. They just think their period was a few days late, or the embryo never even attached at all.

@Pandora I’ve told a few friends they are pregnant. Face and breasts give it away first.

I knew about two days after conception.

On conception day, I do believe I had a sign from above letting me know.

I felt very different about one week from conception and had no doubt I was pregnant.

@pele, I can’t really explain it better than I did. It was just the weirdest sense that I was pregnant and we weren’t trying. It really wasn’t the best timed pregnancy but when I had that feeling, I wasn’t worried about it. It was a really lovely feeling. Like a lightbulb moment “I think I just became pregnant”. Sounds nuts I know.
