What are some new, popular songs without foul language or suggestive lyrics?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) October 6th, 2011

I’m trying to compile a playlist for a party, and the majority of the guests will be 5th graders.
Any ideas?

Jackson Browne just started on the radio. Not necessarily new but easy on the ears.

Stuff by Bruno Mars, some of Katy Pery eg firework, Selena Gomez, justin Bieber (if they’re typical tweens with bad taste in music :p),

@Jellie good suggestions, I would not have come up with any of that on my own. My husband will appreciate the Katy Perry suggestion, he has an insane crush on her. Good call. :)

Here’s one that’s a little out of left field. Vivaldi,The Four Seasons.

Does your party have a theme?

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@bkcunningham I’ll PM the theme.

Now playing U-2. What I’m Looking For. Nice tune and clean. Band Perry, another good choice.

I was going to take the lazy way out and look for soundtracks from popular movies which that age group may like. For example,

Shrek:

The Chronicles of Narnia: http://www.allthelyrics.com/lyrics/the_chronicles_of_narnia_soundtrack/

Mulan, Tarzan, Pirates of the Caribbean…

The biggest song of the summer was Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks
Some people misunderstand it, thinking it promotes gun violence, but it is exactly the opposite.

Josh Groban is good. I like Arcade Fire and Fleet Foxes; haven’t heard anything there that I can imagine objection to. Ditto Bon Iver.

Just read “fifth graders”. Need to re-think.

Has Jon Johnson put out anything lately?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Here’s another couple out of left field: Andrea Boccelli. or the 1812 Overture. They’d probably like the cannon.

CWOTUS's avatar

Of course! @Adirondackwannabe just gave me a great idea, too.

Rossini’s William Tell Overture. Who wouldn’t like the finale to that?

Ditto Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt Suite. They might like that, too.

And don’t forget Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries from Die Walküre. Thrilling

@CWOTUS Excellent choice on the Wagner!

Adele has alot of good songs without any bad lyrics.

@ANef_is_Enuf – Glad I could help.

I bet you weren’t expecting these when you asked the question.:) Wagner, 1812 Overture, Vivaldi. Yeah, that’s new.

I love Jason Mraz and I don’t care who knows it. <———- Said like Will Ferrel from Elf
