What was the most beautiful song ever written?

Asked by GabrielsLamb (6191points) October 6th, 2011

What song
Why do you feel that way
In what way does it move you
How is it “Beautiful” to you and is it for someone?
If so, who?

That’s mine. It is for everyone I have ever fallen in love with. The original version of course was written by Tim Buckley who is the father of none other than Jeff Buckley!

@Blackberry OoOoH that’s a good one too. Elise was a lucky lady!

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, i’ve looked at cloud that way.
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things i would have done but clouds got in my way.

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions i recall.
I really don’t know clouds at all.

Moons and junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real; i’ve looked at love that way.
But now it’s just another show. you leave ‘em laughing when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know, don’t give yourself away.

I’ve looked at love from both sides now,
From give and take, and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions i recall.
I really don’t know love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud to say “i love you” right out loud,
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, i’ve looked at life that way.
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say
I’ve changed.
Something’s lost but something’s gained in living every day.

I’ve looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose, and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions i recall.
I really don’t know life at all.

(I’m going by lyrics)

Maybe it’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow that I like best. Yeah, I think that’s it.

Going a bit more modern…. Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@tedd No, that is a beauty modern or not…

Pachelbel Cannon in D Major
Always brings me to tears. I hope they are playing it when I walk into heaven.

Lick My Love Pump by Spinal Tap.
So beautiful it positively aches.

tranquilsea's avatar

I’m going with another Joni Mitchell song: The Circle Game

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@tranquilsea OOoOoOH That’s pretty… thanks!

tranquilsea's avatar

@GabrielsLamb I love his voice too. But then I hear him being interviewed and he comes across as a bit of braggart.

Bluefreedom's avatar

I was going to go with “What A Wonderful World” but someone already beat me to it. One of the most beautiful instrumental songs I’ve ever heard is “A Summer Place” also known as “Theme from A Summer Place”. I guess you would say ‘composed’ in this instance as opposed to ‘written’.

Judi's avatar

@tranquilsea ; That song seems so unfinished. Then again, she was a very young woman then. Probably not much older than 20 herself. I wonder what she would add today?

Hibernate's avatar

Now it depends on what sort of lyrics one likes.

For instance I like hip hop.

This is my third favourite

This is my second favourite

And My favourite

I like other genres but I’ll listen to these anytime as they are ones of the best .. classic ones.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@tranquilsea I enjoy braggarts… I like that their success and happiness doesn’t depend on another persons opinion of who or what they are.

His self confidence as well as those things that make him vulnerable, are completely his own, and I appreciate those personality types, I believe we all secretly admire braggarts because we lack the conviction and confidence to BE like them.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@Hibernate I LOVED your favorite… It’s beautiful in a different way, and it is a way that ROCKS!

Oldies but goldies ^^

Elyne Road is a very beautiful piece of music, beautifully played by Toumani Diabate.

GabrielsLamb's avatar

@flutherother Beautiful… absolutely beautiful! He has tones and colors of Django in there that I especially love.

Exceptional taste you have my dear!

That will deffinately be one that I add to my library! Thanks!

*It actually made me well up a little… I feel like a big baby! ♥

ucme's avatar

Okay serious answer time. This is bootiful, just bootiful. :¬(

flutherother's avatar

@GabrielsLamb When I really listen to that piece and get involved in it I always imagine there is hope for the world.

For Spiritual songs, I think Beautiful Savior has to be one of the best.

JTSTs2003's avatar

Angel – Sarah McLachlan… it’s a song I always listened to when I was down, it gave me comfort. Like…it let me feel sorry for myself, then comforted me until I felt strong enough to keep going. Something like that…that song is just ethereal.

martianspringtime's avatar

The Trapeze Swinger by Iron and Wine
Iron and Wine isn’t my favourite band and I can think of a few other contenders for the title, but I’m going to just leave it at this one for now.

& Send her my love – Journey. LOVVEEE Journey. They make my soul ache.

The song that sort of brings me to tears is the song “Sidewalks” by Story of the year.
It moves me and reminds me of my grandfather who past away not long ago and reminds me that he is still with my in my heart. :)

Forever Young. I watched my daughter dance to this song when she was a Senior in high school, and it broke my heart to know that she wouldn’t be forever young – that she would grow up and get married and not be my little girl anymore.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Memories, the Elvis version. Also (Yeah I know it’s corny) Lara’s Theme from Dr. Zhivago, the version with lyrics. For my own personal reasons.
