Palm Springs. If you love to eat, shop or hike, and look at architecture, or people watch, this is the place for you.
The best time to go is in springtime. That way, it’s sunny and warm in town, and there will still be snow on top of Mt. San Jacinto. So you can spend one day eating and shopping and hiking the nearby Trails or going to the Art Museum or visiting the nearby Living Desert and Botanical Garden, or you might even want to go a little further out and camp at Joshua Tree
In town my favorite restaurants are Elmer’s for breakfast, El Mirasol for the fantastic Mexican food and plentiful vegetarian options, and Zin for dinner.
The next day, you can take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and hike in the snow. They have 2 restaurants at the Mountain Station. It’s a real thrill to descend the mountain on the tram at night, so you can see all of the sparkly lights of the city of Palm Springs come into view over the last crest.
Palm Springs is known for it’s embrace of Mid Century architecture and artwork and furniture. You can buy stuff or even stay at a Mid Century hotel. Check out this Mid Century Palm Springs Site Palm Springs is also known as being one of the playgrounds for Hollywood movie stars starting in the 20’s and going strong through the 50’s. There’s lots of Art Deco architecture mixed in with the Mid Century stuff.
And for those architecture buffs and fans of Elvis Presley, you can take a home tour of Elvis and Priscilla’s Honeymoon Hideaway
And if you like to gamble, there’s the nearby Morongo Casino in Cabazon, which is right next to the Cabazon Dinosaurs as well as a big outlet mall and Hadley’s if you want to stock up on fruits, nuts, candy and specialty food items, and don’t miss their date shakes!
And last, but not least, in addition to all of the other wonderful photo opportunities in and around and above Palm Springs, don’t miss the Wind Mills or the Statue of Sonny Bono (Former Mayor of Palm Springs)
You could easily spend a week in Palm Springs and the surrounding areas, but a long weekend is still a real treat. I really should be the spokeswoman for this town! LOL
