Other than flowers---anything else you can recommend as a long-distance gift with impact?
After some enormous difficulties, a friend in the States has secured a new job. I want to send something to say, “Fantastic, so happy for you!” but I don’t want to send flowers. (It’s a woman, if that makes a difference.) If they are flowers, I would like them to be “different”. I thought of “Edible Arrangements” which send arrangements of fruits, but was looking for something “girly” like a basket of girly stuff, maybe?(Meaning perfumes/soaps). I just don’t know any companies that make beautiful, interesting gifts (cakes, confections, fragrances, etc ) that elicit a “Wow!” when you open the box. I remember Oprah having a cake company on her show…that sent cakes in these hatboxes (for example), but can’t remember the name of the company (anyone remember?)
I welcome any ideas/suggestions…including non-food items. And thanks in advance!

Moondance is a local organization (for me) that has lovely products and they do a very nice job with the packaging. I’ve always enjoyed their gifts.
Baked is the place Oprah recommends.
I’ve heard about Edible Arrangements, they do awesome work. Not a bad idea should you choose to go with them. For a more personalized approach, you can design a soap. There’s a company that’ll let you choose the soap type, scent, and let you put text or a design it. That’ll hit both the “girly” aspect and make it more personal.
Would your friend enjoy a flowering plant that has a long life rather than fresh flowers that do die too quickly?
Whiteflowerfarms
(Here’s a beauty).
CocoaPink I’ve ordered from there before and I LOVE their scent selection… Maybe even just a gift card for the website!!! I know I would love it!!!
Gift set from Bath and Body works.
Or, gift set or basket from Bloomingdale’s (they are only in a few states, so you won’t pay tax if she doesn’t live in one of those states). If you call the store directly they will create a basket wth whatever you wajt to put in it.
The company you might be thinking of for food baskets is maybe Harry and David.
Where are you from? Give your friend a homeland gift. Perhaps a very special kind of alcohol unique to your region only.
I had a really bad experience with edible arrangements. Their arrangements were beautiful but in the 2 stores I tried dealing with, the customer service SUCKED! They refused to call ahead and make sure someone would be home to receive the arrangement.
@picante That might be the most beautiful thing I’ve seen all day. I want!
@Blueroses, yes the flowering tea is just amazing to watch. What’s not to love!?!?
I’ll chime in and 2nd @JLeslie‘s choices. For years I’ve had happy recipients of Harry and David and am a personal fan along with several female friends and admiring males friends of Bath and Body Works.
What about a flowering plant or a fruit bearing plant…. Logee’s has an unblievable assortment that can all be grown indoors. I have a blood orange tree and a banana tree, a blueberry bush, and a pomagrante. They will ship anywhere for you and its the gift that keeps on giving.
The thing I have about fragrance type gifts is being someone who has severe allergies and that fact that anyone can be allergic to anything. I find perfumes worse than plants for allergies at least for me.
…a long-distance gift with impact?
An airline ticket!
What about a book. Something with meaning or that is uplifting? I have a book that has a reading for every day of the week. Some of them are philosophical or educational or just interesting. It is lovely though and it wasn’t terribly expensive. If I can find it (a lot of my books are in storage), I will post the title. I can’t find it in Amazon.
Other than that, what about a scarf or something beautiful she can wear at work?
Thank you soooooooooooooo much for all the FANTASTIC SUGGESTIONS….I’ll let you know what I decide to do!
You guys rock!!! Thank you!
