Which is the best reasonably priced washer and dryer to buy?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) October 11th, 2011

The ones I have need about
$300 fixing and they are 13 years old. it seems like buying new would make sense. would like to know what the best ones are and what the most reasonably priced ones are.

I have Maytags that are 5 years old. No issues, so far.

If you want to save extra buy the floor models. Mine are slightly mismatched in design, but you’d never know it. I did have to replace the dryers computer circuit board 2 years ago after a power surge in a snow storm. I would recommend not getting the computerized models, just more potential for issues.

A used set from a used appliance store. I’ve got a used drier – and I don’t know how old it was when I got it nine years ago – that cost me very little and has never failed. (When I moved here I had a gas drier from the previous location, but no gas service here, and I didn’t have the money for a brand new drier.)

Possibly not in your price range, but I’ve had amazing luck with my high-efficiency LG washers. I’ve had two sets of them.

If you’ve just moved, I’d suggest waiting for the inevitiable 10% rebate from a big box store and purchasing the appliance there.
