One possibility is blood. You need to see a doctor.

I don’t know but I doubt its good.

An iron rich diet can also lead to darker feces. It’s not always about color, consistency matters, too, as well as frequency, as well as your diet. It’s not only about the color.

could be blood. Could be food. I have had it. I would watch it over the next few days and be careful of other pains and or weird things. Most likely nothing.

You drank a ton of red wine last night, perhaps…?

Black poop is the sign of a black soul :p

blood in the stool is one sign, yes…or maybe waaaaay too many red grapes ;)

Let’s get right to the point. Are you taking any meds like Pepto Bismal? Eat anything unusual like beets? Is the stool soft and “tarry”? Is it really “foul-smelling” (more than usual)?

Could be some vitamins you’re taking.

Drink as much waer as possible, this helps to weaken the colour and make things more ‘ahem’ visible.
But yes, see a doctor!

If you are on an iron supplement, i.e. during pregnancy, your poop will be black and it’s not a problem. If not, you should think about what you’ve been eating and if nothing out of the oridinary, call your doctor.

When one actually takes an fecal occult stool test; http://www.webmd.com/colorectal-cancer/fecal-occult-blood-test-fobt

Here are the foods one stops taking for 3 days prior.

“Turnips, beets, radishes, horseradish, artichokes, mushrooms, broccoli, bean sprouts, cauliflower, apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, and melon. These foods can cause the test to be positive for blood when blood is not in the stool (false-positive test results).
Red meat, which may cause false test results. Small amounts of chicken, turkey, or fish will not affect the test.
Iron supplements
Aspirin (or products that contain aspirin) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or other medicines that irritate the stomach or intestines
Vitamin C supplements”

All true gail. Nicely summarized. The only caveat is that the foods and meds you listed tend to cause false positive fecal occult stool tests, which are very sensitive tests for blood in the stool. Only small amounts are necessary to trigger a false positive test, and this can occur with “normal” brown stool. Actual black stool is likely due to some food or medicine intake, but could be a sign of “old blood” in the stomach and intestines, resulting in something called melena.
