Do you think there are some situations where the feelings of a person (or group of people) shouldn't matter when making decisions?

What would some of those situations be, if any at all?

In a combat situation its not about feelings, its about orders. I guess that’s one.
Team sports? Not really sure. What kind of feelings if you have any in mind?
If you had been a Jew or a Gypsies in Germany, should Hitler’s feelings about you outweigh your own desire for self preservation and for saving your family from his gas chambers?
When that feeling is hate.

Meeting your ex-wife’s new husband.
@Blackberry Ok then. Well, one answer is fixed marriages. The feelings of the couple being matched should not matter as far as their parents are concerned.
When you only have 3 tickets to the baseball game, but you have 3 kids…you shouldn’t automatically choose the 2 kids you like the most to accompany you. If you do this often, the 3rd (and least liked) child will get suspicious. Vary which kids you take to sporting events!
The exchange of 1000 terrorists, some of whom have killed dozens of people, and show no regret whatsoever and even talk about returning to terrorism, in exchange for the kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit. The parents, children, siblings and friends of many of the terror victims are protesting the exchange very loudly – but the Prime Minister of Israel has made a decision.

When everyone else believes in something or does something that goes against my own moral code. Like those stupid Japanese fishermen who slaughter poor dolphins. They may say it’s just their job to do it, but I say it’s immoral and wrong.
@MRSHINYSHOES I just watched The Cove yesterday. Now my soul hurts.
When the feelings don’t belong to somebody involved in the decision. For example, if you are considering having an abortion, you shouldn’t have to consider the feelings of the pro-life lobbyists who are trying to make you feel guilty at an already trying time.
@Blackberry I haven’t watched it yet, but I saw a documentary report on the subject on t.v. this evening. It was disgusting.
@zensky, I didn’t know about this story, but I checked your links. Am I reading this correctly? In order to bring one captured soldier home, Israel’s government is releasing 1000 prisoners, including some who may not have had any political or military motivations—they are just murderers? I must be misunderstanding. To whose benefit is the release, and how is that serving to bring the one prisoner home?
From your answer in response to the wording of the question, it sounds like you are saying the prime minister did right to act without consulting the feelings of the group. Was that your meaning?
When pissant politicians make promises during an election that they know won’t be kept.
This should & does matter to the general population, but not from the mouths that it came.
@Jeruba Correct, correct and correct. I don’t want to hijack this thread – and there is too much background info required about this – but it’s exactly that – I agree with the PM’s decision – why I do, and 95% of the populations (polls) and a resounding 28–3 vote on the Ministers’ part that is – well, it’s hard to explain without learning a little history. Maybe in PM – or another thread.

Integrity issues. Moral code as MRSHINYSHOES said so well.
