In your opinion, why does it seem to be so hard to make it easy for people from Mexico to be legal to work and live in the USA?

Many people in Mexico are ridiculously poor, and can not find work. All they have to do is wade over a river to find a job to feed themselves and their families. A perfectly reasonable thing to do. I would do it myself if I could not find work and I had a family to support. So what is this bullshit about illegal this and amnesty that. Just make it easy to be legal. I don’t get it. What is the problem?

Keeping them illegal lowers labor costs for Americans competing against them for jobs. It is against the interests of many companies that have large operations using low skilled workers to reform laws.
Politicians take funds from these companies in the form of political contributions. Politicians are also able to whip up the emotions of Americans who are low paid by saying they will be tough on illegals.
It is in our leadership’s best interest to keep these people illegal while limiting enforcement of our existing immigration laws.
@Imadethisupwithnoforethought I agree. Many major corporations, Marriott among them, seek to make it as easy as possible to import low paid labor into the country and then keep them low paid.
@saint There is no reason it should be easy to be legal in the US. On the contrary, Congress sets immigration quotas, thereby limiting the number of people who can legally come into the US annually. They don’t do a very good job of it and they change it from time to time but quotas have been the norm since the founding of the nation.
My daughter in law’s mother is a Mexican and a legal US citizen. Her parents did not find it easy to become citizens. It was very difficult, but they did it and brought their 8 minor daughters with them and then, after immigrating, made sure that all 8 daughters got a college education in the US. And her parents were not rich.
My personal trainer, age 28, is a US citizen from Romania. He did not find it easy to become a US citizen. He tells me it was extremely difficult and you would certainly call him prejudiced against illegal aliens. He thinks it ought to be tough. It was for him and now that he is here, he does not care to be overrun by illegals, no matter how impoverished they are.
People are assuming that ALL Mexicans have low-skills and will only be used for low-skilled jobs in the USA .If you are highly-skilled :if you were an astronaut or computer programmer or a University Professor it would not matter to US Immigration that you were Mexican or any other nationality:they would make allowances.So the point is if you are highly-skilled in any profession you are going to find it much easier to work, live and travel in any Country in the World.This is the way the World works.If you have low-skills unfortunately it is going to be very difficult for you to live, work and travel in any Country in the World.So being born unfortunately with low-intelligence, even though it is not a person’s fault, life is going to be very hard wherever you choose to live.I have heard and seen Documentarys where US Border guards shoot Illegal Mexican immigrants trying to cross the US Border.Is this Legal?
Political pandering (explained with more detail in previous posts. )
But those two words are the answer in a nutshell.
@gr8teful ummmm….I may be wrong, but I think it is legal to shoot people who are caught in the act of trying to enter this country illegally.
@plethora
Really? Isn’t that going a bit overboard?
