What is an older movie that you've seen lately, but have no-one to talk to about?

Asked by zensky (13421points) October 19th, 2011

You see an older, really good movie – and you have nobody to discuss it with – because you’re embarrassed to have not seen it 7 years ago when it actually came out.

Well, you’ve got a friend in me.

I didn’t see the movie “Gone With the Wind” until 2 years ago. What the hell’s wrong with me? One of the best movies I’ve ever seen too.

I have only recently seen Donnie Darko. I was amazed by it, but I’m not sure if I like it yet.
I need to watch it again.

Hey, the Green Mile is a good universal answer

Memento and Mulholland Drive.

I have never seen GWTW either, @Bluefreedom. @filmfann Haven’t seen that either. Green Mile was great. Memento was a really interesting movie I also saw much later and I think I started watching Mulholland Drive but couldn’t get into it. Discuss.

I just saw Pulp Fiction two weeks ago. It was okay. Yes, just okay.

@Seek_Kolinahr Hi babes. I actually saw that one in the cinema when it came out – and wasn’t crazy about it at all. I subesequently saw it a few more times and then got into Tarantino films – not all, but most I likes. Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds most recently.

Embarrassed? I barely understand the question, friend @zensky. I can’t imagine why I should be embarrassed to talk about seeing an older movie, whether it was from the nineties, the sixties, or the thirties. I think it is great to fill in cultural gaps and also make then-and-now comparisons, and I never feel remiss if there’s something I haven’t seen.

The other night I watched John Ford’s Stagecoach (1939, my second John Wayne movie) for the first time and talked about it at dinner the next night. The last very old movie I saw before that was François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959), about 3 weeks ago.

Basterds was a little better, but to be honest, something about Tarantino just rubs me the wrong way. I didn’t even like the episodes of CSI that he directed. On the other hand, I love Shayamalan movies, and get quite a bit of flack for that. ^_^

@Jeruba It was inspired by a Comedy Central skit – and just an excuse to talk about older movies, which I inevitably waych due to a. not going out much and b. we get movies here on TV months after they come out in the states.

@Seek_Kolinahr I liked the sixth sense. I didn’t like the village.

Edit: Jeruba, classics don’t count in that sense. Classics can and should be watched at amy time. It was more about watching, say, Heat on TV and not having anyone to talk about it with, lol. As I said – it was a comedy sketch.

Try “Unbreakable”. Especially if you’re into comic books.

The Best of Times
Harvey

I asked around at work and no one had ever seen the best of times… appalled me.. and Harvey is just a great classic. Most of the people at work have short attention spans so they can’t properly enjoy it. I loved it yet again.

@digitalimpression Yikes….that Pamela Reed is a hottie. Gotta see that one.

American Werewolf in London.

Our family has been watching a lot of movies lately, especially scary movies, so I do have someone to talk to about the films. I forgot how funny this movie was, though. It was scary for me when I watched it for the first time in the 80s. I can appreciate the humor now that I’m a bit older.

Well, out of the people I know well, i’m the only one who likes old Jimmy Cagney gangster movies.
White Heat/Angels With Dirty Faces/The Public Enemy among others.
That’s okay though, surprised the wife one time with half a grapefruit over breakfast!
