How many times a month do you go shopping for clothes?
I want to know how many people leave their homes and go to a store in a month. What stores do you go to? The local mall? Which stores in the mall? Walmart? What do you buy? Shirts? Jackets? Jeans?

“a month”? I buy some clothes about once every 1 to 1.5 years, as they wear out.
I’ll usually make a quick entrance into a mall, go to J. Crew, and exit the mall in less than 20 minutes. Any trip to a shopping mall that lasts longer than 20 minutes may result in depression, anger, and vomiting.
Per month ?!
I’m on the same schedule as @tom_g, for the same reasons.
Mail-order is also popular in this household, for the same reasons.
I probably shop for clothes 6 times a year. Usually I go in spurts. Maybe 2 or 3 times in one month, and then nothing for months and months. I usually shop in Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s, jeans typically from Buckle, workout clothes from Sports Authority. I order sports bras from an online company.
I go about once a year. That is usually at Coastal Farm Supply and Target.
I might shop for clothes once a year. I go.. wherever it makes the most sense to go at the time. If I need a coat or jeans I go to Burlington. If I need tops, I usually check Walmart. It would be really unusual for me to go to the mall or a department store, unless I’m looking for something for a special occasion. I keep my wardrobe simple. I typically have 2 pairs of jeans (one casual, one nicer), 2 pairs of dress slacks, 2 dresses, 2 skirts, and several tops in neutral colors that can be easily mixed and matched.
It’s been about 4 years since I’ve stepped foot inside a mall. I usually go to Kohls or Bergners in the spring and the fall when clothes are marked down 70%-80% (this is usually for the kids, though). I rarely buy something for myself unless I absolutely need something (I’ve been wearing the same two pair of jeans for 5 years now. they are still in good shape and extra comfy). I make a trip to Goodwill 1–2 times a year for myself and my husband. I visit Walmart once a month to buy a $4 t shirt for my husband for his work. His shirts usually last a month before they are torn and have holes in them (he works with metal).
Clothes shopping makes me feel ill.
When I do go, it’s because my only pair of jeans has disintegrated, and needs to be replaced, or every single one of my daily-wear shirts has acrylic paint and/or furniture finish and/or cooking oil smeared across it.
I most often purchase clothing at second-hand stores.
I used to go shopping pretty often. My friends and I would get together and go shopping as a way to hang out, or I’d just buy stuff on impulse. After a few months of unemployment, I have a new job with much lower pay than the last one, and I’m starting to really think about my goals and why I need to save money. It’s slow going with the lower pay, so I’ve put a freeze on discretionary spending.
In the last year I’ve only bought clothes once, to replace a pair of shoes and a pair of jeans that wore out. Ugh, and I hated parting with the money.
Rarely. If I need something (unlikely, given my life and life-style) I’ll check out the local thrift and consignment store and order bras, panties, and pants online. Three pairs of jeans, three pair of cargo pants, and two pairs of yoga pants will probably outlast me.
I will enter a store when I have to replace my walking shoes.
MY winter holiday gift list is a 4” utility knife and a 1 qt. saucepan.
OTOH, Milo orders up the limo all the time when I am not paying attention. Then he usually goes to NYC in order to prowl around Bergdorf’s or Bendel’s. The people at MC continue to let him use my card, in spite of all my protests. $1600 for two pair of Jimmy Chou’s? I ask you.
Zero. I probably only physically go shopping for clothes twice a year. I buy new clothes on line every 4 or 5 months.
Maybe once or twice a year. Most other stuff is bought online. But clothes are so fucking boring. Anyone want to talk tech?
Probably twice. If I’m out and see something good I’ll get it.
I don’t shop for clothes regularly.
I only go into a mall if I’m looking for something for a special occasion.
I do most of the clothes shopping for my family. I buy socks, underwear and jeans when needed. I often check the clearance racks when I’m in any store. Sometimes I buy clothes then.
I also sometimes get clothes from thrift stores.
I go once every 6 months or so.
I almost never go to the mall. Mainly I get my clothes online or at a stand-alone store.
Times a month?!?! I go shopping for clothes about once or twice a year when I stock up on white socks (so I don’t have to sort socks) and underwear at Try-N-Save. Then a new pair of jeans, and khaki slacks for work. Then some casual shirts, and a bunch of cotton tees for around the house. That’s about the extent of my annual clothes shopping.
I rarely go clothes shopping, because I’m broke. But when I do go, I always go to thrift stores. I am one of those people that can spend 2 hours in a thrift store and come out with 10 fantastic outfits. I would never set foot in a mall to actually buy something. That would be money down the drain. The only reason I ever go to the mall is so me and one of my good friends can look at the Christmas decorations (for free).
Once a year or less. I take good care of my clothes and shoes, and I could care less about the latest fashions.
A month? hahahahaha I doubt I go shopping for clothes more than once every three years or so.
The people who answering who say they almost never go shopping, which is most of you, are you counting a pair of gloves one winter, or a new bathing suit every three years, or a new bra for a dressy occasion? I’m thinking all random times I enter a store for clothing. Is everybody else?
I wish I could only go once a year but I grow an inch every month it seems like, so that can’t happen. Also, I live in the country, so the nearest mall, which is actually more like an outlet, is about 20 minutes away. I’d say I go every 3–4 months. When I’m older, I’ll just get clothes online.
@JLeslie I rarely even go out of my house, and even less often go to a clothing store. I take the kids out for a walk, or visit a park or museum, and once or twice a year, maybe, to the toy store, but I hate shopping. I only go to a clothing store when I actually need something, and I know exactly what I want – I get it – and I leave. I bought a bathing suit this year, and it was the first thing I have bought since I got some driving shoes three years ago.
I don’t really have a schedule. Whenever I’m at the store, and I see something I’d wear, I buy it. :P
@JLeslie: I am counting every article of clothing that I have. Recently I bought these online in shocking pink. And will probably pick up a six-pack of Hanes cotton high-cut briefs next time I am the Dollar Store.
@JLeslie All of my bras and my bathing suit are at least 4 years old. My gloves were bought 3 years ago. The last time I bought any piece of clothing was 6 months ago when I picked up a package of socks at Walmart.
I too have gloves that are many years old. Bras last me 5–10 years. Jeans can last 15 years. Hell, my husband darned some of his socks the other day instead of buying new ones. But, I still wind up buying clothes here and there. Either I gained weight, which happened this year, and need a couple new things, or I buy a new pair of workout pants. It’s not like I have big shopping sprees 6 times a year. Usually I buy out of need, but several garments a year are just to have something new, or how I today ordered a t-shirt from my alumni club for fun. I was just wondering how everyone was thinking about it. I guess we were all basically on the same page.
I haven’t been clothes shopping in ages. I’m on an incredibly tight budget at the moment so outings like this are few and far between. When I wasn’t so restricted financially, I’d usually go shopping every month – payday! :) I’d buy whatever took my fancy – clothes for partying and casual clothes.
I’m genuinely glad I’m not as pushed by that stuff anymore. Having said that, some new bits and pieces would be nice.
I only buy a few items of clothing per year, it’s just too stressful to enjoy shopping. I have a sewing machine so I usually mend and or alter certain clothes if need be.
Two or three times. But nowadays buying dresses online is becoming more and more popular. I was thinking about buying my dresses online. Maybe in the future, I will buy my wedding dress online. Haha~
