Sushi and Thai. I don’t have a particular restaurant.

Pete’s Cafe on the corner of 4th Street & Main St. in Downtown Los Angeles. The bleucheese french fries are the single greatest food I’ve every tried in a restaurant.

But everything I’ve tried there has been exquisite, including the simple granola breakfast.

I’ve been to 5 Star Restaurants, and food is a pretty big deal to me. I’d have to say that most of the greatest food comes from Los Angeles.

The brunch at the Belvedere, the 5star/5diamond restaurant in the hotel The Peninsula Beverly Hills will leave you wanting more.

Cole’s downtown has the best french dip, and the best grilled cheese sandwich; as well as a great Sazerac, a whiskey based drink that is rarely found offered at restaurants.

Golden Corral or Home Town Buffet, where I can take my whole family, and we can each choose whatever we want.

Ha! I like too many to really call one out, maybe the Inn at Little Washington – that was probably some of the best food I’ve ever eaten, same with an exclusive steak house in Tokyo whose name escapes me – they could do no wrong.

In general Alinea was pretty awesome and unlike anything I’d had before. I’m a big fan of Les Halles, they’re consistently good. There’s a no name sandwich place that sets up shop in the parking lot of a home depot that I pass regularly, they make fantastic hot toasted subs (steak & cheese, meatball, grilled onions/peppers/eggplant). Same with a diner downtown, some of the best collard greens and ham I’ve had.

I’ve got some sushi, Vietnamese, and Thai places (the Thai one is now 4th generation and just keeps getting better) near by all cheap enough to eat at regularly and good enough to justify it – otherwise I’m just a fan of good food, cook it for me and you’re place is on the list!

Oh, and there was a place in Abashiri that was beyond belief but the food was equaled by the environment and overall feel so it’s hard to say if it would be the same if it was just the food.

My favorite is Restaurante Asia Cala Bona. It’s a Chinese buffet restaurant, I must have been there 20 times in the last year alone, I always enjoy going there.

@YARNLADY Yes, Hometown Buffet, yum!

@mrrich724 I’ll definitely bookmark this page and look it up next time I find myself in Hollywood! : )

@poisonedantidote Wow, that place sounds great with those reviews.

I miss Hungry Hunter, and the Long Life Noodle Company and Jook Joint.
Current restaurants? Fentons Ice Creamery, a local Chinese place, Top Dog, and Taco Bell.

I have no single favorite, but the ones I like to return to usually have a nice-but-not-formal atmosphere, offer a varied but not immense menu, feature more than one seafood entree, and serve wine. I usually go here right after the opera (it’s directly across the street); it’s definitely among my favorites.

Dreamland’s in Birmingham, AL. Best ribs in the world! Second to Grandma’s of course.

For some reason food always tastes better after midnight. There’s a 24-hour Korean barbecue place that I love. Korean barbecue isn’t that uncommon around here- there’s one particular neighborhood where you will see one on practically every street corner. But this place does some amazing things with the meat. It’s slightly sweet, which seems a little off for American tastebuds, but it really works. The ribs and bulgogi are tender, savory, and a hint sweet, and they have this nice crispy char and serve it with tons of little side dishes.

Not to go on and on about Korean food, but there’s also a Korean fried chicken place that’s awesome as shit. Maybe they fry the chicken twice or something, but the skin is extra, extra crispy and has some sort of a spicy glaze on it. It’s seared closed (or something) to lock in the juices, so it’s almost like biting through candy (just the texture), and the meat is tender, juicy, and savory. Then they give you these little cubes of pickled radish that are a perfect counterpart to the chicken- they’re so zesty, acidic and crunchy. Imagine the best, freshest cole slaw you’ve ever eaten minus the cream sauce. And they put little mini-kegs of beer on the table… fuck yeah!

There’s also a 24-hour Afghani place that I love. My favorite dish is chicken curry which has this amazing oniony sauce that’s full of ginger and black pepper. There’s also some sort of cow’s feet dish, where they take the fat from the hooves and boil the hell out of it with onions and spices until it’s this gelatinous mess that’s like the spiciest, fattiest gravy you’ve ever eaten. It’s great over rice or with flatbread (which they also do perfectly!) There seems to be both Indian and Middle-Eastern influence in the food, and again, everything is grilled to charred, smoky perfection. They give you fresh ginger, jalapenos, onions, cilantro, and lemon wedges as a garnish, and all this fresh zestiness goes so well with the meat.

Damn. I’m hungry.

The Good Food Cart in Madison, Wisconsin. I know the owner. Hell, I raised her.

@Haleth And where are these great sounding eating spots, pray tell?!

Tacos De Acapulco in San Luis Obispo, CA.

I haven’t been there for over 20 years now, but the food is great. Huge portions of authentic Mexican food. I always ordered their chicken quesadilla. It was almost as large as my head. This was/is a regular late night stop for all the college students.

I love any kind of Chinese or Mexican restaurant, not the dodgy ones though. I could eat only these two types of cuisines for the rest of my life.

Burger King.
