Your thoughts on this heinous Japanese crime 1888-89. (Read details first).

For those of you who are familiar with the kidnapping of Junko Furuta, and the torture she went through for 44 days.
I came across this story a couple of years back, and it traumatized me. About a minute ago I came across it again after so many years. One of the four boys who tortured her was a teenager, I’m sure the other three weren’t that old either.
What I’m not able to comprehend is what would make these young boys do something so evil. I’ll sound naive if I say ‘What would make anybody do something so evil’.
Yes, the world is a bad bad place, but what they did to her, makes me bawl like a baby. I don’t get it.
For those of you not exactly familiar with the tortures she went through please have a read first.
I just want your thoughts on the matter. Don’t twist my question around. Just your thoughts please.

It’s sick and heinous. We will never know what goes on in the minds of people that twisted. My thought are that some people are just born evil and choose to follow the dark.

Trying to figure out crazy people just makes one crazy themselves.
The best that can be said is sad stuff happens.
There is no figuring out disturbed characters.
As always it is usually a combo plate of nature vs. nurture.

Like attracts like, so it is no surprise when equally sick people are in liasion with each other, and this pertains from the sickest of governments to your everyday couple.

I don;t dwell on the suffering of the world, I work on being the best person I can be, and that is all any of us can do to make a difference.

I’m sorry, it was between the years 1988–89.

Here’s a link, for those who need the gory details.

In my opinion, they did it because they wanted to (needed to would imply they couldn’t control themselves – from what I see that’s not the case), had the means, and clearly didn’t have sufficient motivation not to (this part is what I believe society needs to work on). It happens, in West Virginia a couple years ago, Germany, a NH family murder (recently in the news again), NY just a week ago – different torture and motive but all pretty much the same. What bothers me is how, in my view lenient, their punishment was.

Oh, God, that. I actually read about that story just the other week. It’s truly horrifying. I was in total shock after I read the Wikipedia article on it, and I could not for the life of me imagine why any human being would do this to another. It reminds me of the Denepropetrovsk Maniacs, another fucked up tale of total depravity.

@Joker94 Yes. I read about that one too a while back. I saw the actual footage. The video was called 3 guys one hammer. I was sick to my stomach the next few days. I don’t know what to make of it.

Joker94's avatar

@Ayesha I never had the courage to watch that video. My friend did, because he thought it was fake, and said he had to quit a few minutes in. Just reading about stuff like this gives me the willies, I can’t imagine actually seeing it happen.

I just can’t believe the lenient sentences these evil people got and that the parents weren’t held accountable.

I’m pissed…....

There is a dark side to all of us. I am having a hard time shaking free of the story of the two year old Chinese girl who was run over by a van while others just walked by without assisting her. It is said that all power corrupts and causes people to take advantage of others. I am by no means excusing what happened, but just saying that these kinds of things do happen and that to one degree or another we are all capable of a degree of cruelty.

What’s got me going lately is reorts from Sierre Leone about systematic rape of girls 3 years old and younger! Who does this? One victim was a 2 month old baby!

Well that is terrible.
It reminds me of 2 other stories: one that I don’t know too much about and the other that happened not too far away from where I live.
The first one is about some guys I think in the south. The police were called to their house and when the police started to investigate, they found 4 malnourished and obviously abused people in the basement. My dad told me about that one and I don’t know all the details, so I can’t really speak too much about it.
The other one happened a couple years ago in Cheshire, CT, not an hour away from my house. A family’s house got invaded and the people who broke in kidnapped all four people, raped the 2 daughters in front of their parents and killed them and the mother. The father escaped. Here is the details. They both just got convicted. It is scary for me because of how close to home it was to me. My school plays this school in the league. I go biking in this town. It is awful how close you can get to this stuff. I’m shaking just thinking about it.
Your story is, I believe worse, however, as they were this creaul and yet so young.

We recently had a case come to light of a man who was systematically tortured over months and months. He was finally dropped off outside a hospital a mere 87 pounds. The trial is still on going. Dustin Paxton is the alleged torturer. There was a released picture of this poor guy months ago and he had been severely tortured.

There have always been people like this throughout history. They are terrible examples of how depraved we can get.

To dwell on the evils of the world is unhealthy, it perpetuates fear and anger.
I’m going out now to DO something positive, I am trying to capture 3 tiny feral kittens in the woods before they become Coyote takeout. ;-)

Personally, I do not think that “everyone” is capable of physical cruelty. I think to inflict this sort of torture, an individual would have to be sociopathic/psychopathic. People like this do not have the ability to feel empathy with another human being & people like this are also drawn to each other because it increases their enjoyment of inflicting pain when they can ‘show-off’ to each other. Such individuals are very dangerous & it should make us at least a little more cautious about with whom we choose to hang out.

When looking at the myriad possibilities that can arise once a person in conceived in the womb (how their brain is formed in the embryo) and then once they are raised, it is no surprise these things happen. It sucks, but it almost seems “natural”. We can’t all be good people.

Hibernate's avatar

Ain’t nothing to it. Either a traumatizing childhood or they heard “voices”; or maybe gangsta rap made them do it.

It’s just like the: guns kill people… No. People kill people.

Shit happens every day in the world. Every few minutes a kid dies, be it from hunger or torture. It can be anyone.
I hear worse, I’ve even seen worse so I can say it’s just how things are.
Oh and one more thing .. for those of you that didn’t experienced things like this better not comment my reply. Stay out of mine and give your own thoughts.

Blackberry's avatar

Lol! My own thought is that rap music doesn’t make people torture others.

Blackberry's avatar

Ah, you figured it all out. Thanks, professor.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

I never heard about this until now.

Makes me absolutely sick and terribly sad. :(

Hibernate's avatar

@Blackberry I appreciate your sarcasm but everyone is entitled to have his/her own opinions. If your differs from then don’t laugh of them. I never “made fun” of yours. I thought you had more wit, seems I was wrong. Excuse me for that.

Ayesha's avatar

@Hibernate and @Blackberry
Not under my question. PM each other if you have to please.

janbb's avatar

@CaptainHarley Great point! I’ve read about this.

CaptainHarley's avatar

@janbb

I have to admit that I found the article a surprise. We hear so much on the news about murder and mayhem that we begin to think it’s everywhere!

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

@CaptainHarley Interesting article. It seems perpetrators are getting more heinous nowadays. That is, their methods of murdering are getting more gruesome and violent.

Blackberry's avatar

@CaptainHarley Yay! Maybe we were wrong about humans killing each other off in the future. Maybe we’re going to be a society of hedonistic hippies…..
