I’m hoping there is one type of connector which will be found on all TV sets regardless of whether they are analog or digital or HD or not.
The four to which I refer are HDMI, Composite (RWY), Coax, and Component.
I’m aware of the quality differences in the type of picture you’ll end up with. That is the LEAST of my concerns since this will be a secondary (or supplemental) viewing option.
My PRIMARY CONCERN is versatility. If there is one type guaranteed to be on pretty much ANY TV, then that’s the one I want.
If there is no such animal, then whichever one is the option for the greatest number of TV types is what I’m most interested in.
I want to get this right once and for all regardless of where I live or which type of TV I’m using.
I used to think that was Coax. Apparently I was way off base on that.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

No universal connector yet. It depends on what you’re connecting to what. Sorry!

Depends on what you’re connecting. HDMI is starting to be more universal, but only among HD TVs and HD systems. For the most part all TVs have A/V (audio video) connections, so if what you’re trying to hook up can connect to that you should be fine.
I was originally going to say coax as well, but if you found that’s off base I’d say the next best bet is composite. It’s been around a while and most TVs, along with most output devices, will have some method of connecting a composite cable. HDMI’s getting up there, though, and is actually overtaking component.
I would say that coax and composite video are present in just about every NTSC TV set manufactured today, including HDTV units…. Coax is the most basic of TV Broadcast connection while composite (RCA plug) is the standard by which video playing and recording equipment interface with a monitor. HDMI and Component video are the standards for high-definition and enhanced-definition TV’s.
