What are your thoughts on YouTube culture?
Have you noticed any evolutions of how people present themselves on the site?
Do you find the way people stare into the camera while playing music as striking or awkward?
Does YouTube culture promote healthy relationships?
Do you think some people are really brave on YouTube but lack confidence in real life? For instance I noticed a ton of trolling and smack talk.
Do you think these people are the same out in public?
What are your overall thoughts on YouTube.

I listen to music on youtube or watch videos, but I never comment or read the comments, because they are so awful.
Good question. I never really thought about it that way. I use Youtube for previews, guitar covers and for some music videos. I do appreciate videos, trying to help out others. The effort for example put in a guitar tutorial or a hairstyle or make-up tutorial.
I like Youtube if I keep my ‘surfing’ to the point.
I think YouTube is a branch of internet culture. It’s a way for people to share and present ideas, and just generally communicate.
They’re all a bunch of <bleeping> morons who can’t bleeping write a coherent <bleeping> sentence. They aggravate the <bleep> out of me because they do nothing but argue about stupid things all the <bleeping> time that has nothing to do with the <bleeping> video! I try to never comment on their <bleeping> <bleep> because I know I’m just going to get a reply about how George <bleeping> Bush is to blame for all the <bleep> we’re going through right now, and that they think Justin Beiber is the <bleeping> devil, and I should go <bleep> my mother!
And that is a perfect, typical Youtube comment. Thank you very much. <takes a bow>
“That is so lame you should like totally kill urself.”
@WillWorkForChocolate So is that ^. I actually remember when comments were useful and respectful. That didn’t last long. Now it just seems like a cesspool.
I’m sad to say that the people with the stupid videos on YouTube are what our generation enjoys. They represent our generation, and it only kills the nonexistent hope for humanity even further.
Oh, and don’t forget the comments…
@Male What about the minority that use the website for educational videos?
I only use youtube for very specific purposes, like
1) Listening to music
2) Finding a tutorial
3) Watching a clip from a TV show or a documentary
4) The rare case where someone recommends a link to me
I have no interest in watching random people sing bad cover songs or otherwise making a$$e$ of themselves. I guess that puts me in the minority?
Don’t know how youtube plays into relationships, but I guess it can damage them if someone posts an embarassing clip of someone they know.
People tend to hide behind the anonymity of the web, and most wouldn’t be so outspoken or belligerent in the real world [I would think]. If youtube was linked to facebook accounts and a person’s friends could see everything they posted, there would probably be less trolling/smack talk [again I would estimate].
I tend to ignore the comments.
Overall I think youtube is a great resource to be able to find and distribute information of all types, and also to share creative productions and to be able to reach a larger audience. That’s what it is to me, I’m 33 – my 19 year old brother might have a different opinion.
I like YouTube and its content. Well, some of it. I agree on the comments though. They are pretty bad. But the people on YouTube are very funny some times and talented others. But, I’m a teenager. I guess that most of the stuff on there should appeal to me.
Don’t tell anyone, but I actually use YouTube most often to download free songs that I’m too lazy to buy them on iTunes. Shhh.
Youtube comments make me nauseous. I like youtube because I can find a lot of what I’m looking for on it, but I’ve been trying to find alternatives to it for anything I can because the amount of ads they bombard you with now is ridiculous.
