I'm having trouble sleeping lately. Could it be due to my work schedule?

Asked by Blackberry (34189points) October 25th, 2011

It was never a problem before, I’ve been doing this for awhile. But now I’m having trouble sleeping. Every week I switch from 7AM to 4PM and 4PM to 12AM.

I suspect the new schedule has everything to do with it. I don’t know what the solution is though. How long are you going to have to work that schedule? That’s messed up.

Maybe I’m contagious.

Shift work has always messed with me pretty bad, I’m sure that could be it.

Any change in your sleep pattern will get more difficult as you get older. A consistent schedule is best for a good night’s sleep.

This sucks. I’m “SOL”, then. I’m going to be doing this for awhile, and I’m also getting older soooo…....lol. I sleep a lot on the weekends, but I need it now.

Not necessarily. Try light deprivation for a few hours before you want to go to sleep. Do relaxing things, no exciting movies or physical activity before bed, don’t eat… etc. Bore yourself to sleep. No Fluther.

Yes. Take advice from me. I’m on Fluther, I’m watching horror movies, home alone, at 1am.. and I’ve been up for 2 days.
Go watch Antiques Roadshow.

I was going to ask a question about which T.V. series to watch next, but I forgot. I’m not a big fan of T.V. The shows have to be exceptional, like Mad Men or Californication. Something that isn’t typical.

Well, boring is good if you’re trying to sleep. I will watch pretty much anything except sci-fi/fantasy, so I don’t have advice beyond that. I really think that not being online makes a difference. The internet is different from watching a boring movie or reading a book, you’re engaged with other people… you can switch it up when you lose interest. It makes it a lot easier to not fall asleep.

Watch reruns of MASH. The theme song alone puts me to sleep. lol

Something about those old-fashioned, T.V. personality voices are soothing…...“Hey Bob! Yuck yuck yuck yuck, wom wom wom…....(audience laughter)”

How the fuck should I know? ;¬}
Maybe you’ve entered a phase of your life known medically as hornybastarditis….it’s one theory.

Start by going to bed around the same time every night, even if you don’t have to go to work until 4pm. Your body will condition itself to get tired around that time.
