Holograms.

3D DVD is too hard on the eyes to ever get real traction.

I heard Apple has a TV computer that will obey spoken requests.

Movies on Thumb Drive type of devices. It’s how I store movies and watch them already.

It’s already here . . . it’s direct download to your hard drive through outlets like iTunes, Amazon, etc.

These outlets are also ramping up “cloud” storage, like Amazon who gives you a few gigs free storage on their sites, and Apple’s new iCloud.

The goal is that you can buy media (including movies) anywhere at any time, and eventually stream it anywhere at any time, because it’s not in a format that you have to physically carry or store yourself!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet . . .

It’s gaining traction quickly, but there are still too many people who need to have something tangible (i.e. a DVD disc) when they pay for something. But the next generation won’t have a problem with it at all (is my guess, since it’s already becoming quite popular).

Optic oisks are widely regarded as being the next floppy disk in the line for obsolescence, more than likely it’s going to be something akin to flash drives, if it’s not going to be replaced outright by outlets like netflix and itunes.

Gree-ray Discs.

Owning media will become unnecessary when everything is instantly accessible. With internet speeds ever increasing, we will just stream what we want when we want it. Think Netflix but in HD or 3D, available anywhere, and literally instantly. We won’t need to save terabytes of data. We’ll just need enough ram or flash memory to hold whatever we’re currently accessing.

It’s very difficult to predict, because tomorrow could change everything!

We already barely use DVDs or BluRays as much as we use streaming.

4K video in the “cloud” on-demand anytime. For a good article read here:

DVDs are multi-purpose so there are several answers to this question. Predicting the future however is not going very well yet.

And for those who said “streaming”, you were right! (Going back from the future.)
