What is your role in society?

Are you the one everyone comes to for advice, or the one everyone strays away from? Do you cause problems, or do people cause you problems? Are you known where you live, or do eyes run right past you? Do the cops know you by name or do you stay out of trouble? Who are you in society?

Right now, I feed the masses.
The farmers at the farmers market know me. More people at work know me than I know. My neighbors know me. I have friends. The problem is that people remember me for the things I do at work and not for much else, but it’s the much else that I want to be known for.
Cops don’t know me and I don’t know cops and I’ll be happy if it stays that way for the rest of my life.
@CWOTUS I once asked a woman what she thought the purpose of life was. She said “To make mistakes, then die.”
And my purpose is to work. Doesn’t matter what it is.
Not many people know me where I live. I have done a bad job if integrating into my new environment. I have lived here more than two years now.
People who do know me come to me for advice.
I am not known by the police at all.
A little bit of both. The people at the police department know me by name because my grandson is a volunteer in the business office.
I’m the amateur psychologist, the one people talk to about their troubles. Unknown by the police, and quite happy about that.
I try to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, using words and ideas, mostly.
Sounds better than “I do data entry 40 hours a week.”
Aside from selfish merrymaking?
People do ask me for advice or confide in me things to discuss because I’m good at keeping secrets or at least on the down low.
I feel my life is all mine since I’m exempt from the normal biological prerogative. I try not to be overly self indulgent or the other end of the spectrum, not to become morose or feel “left behind” as far as nature goes.
That of the responsible individual.
@lloydbird You and me both.
When they have a problem, they always call me. I hate the phone.
It’s never from someone who wants to help me.
I’m a worker bee. I try to do more good than harm and always have good intensions. Just give me a big pile of boring tedious work and get out of my way and I’m happy as long as people will benefit from my efforts.
My role is described thus: D = 0.5 * rho * v^2 * C_d * A. Nice policemen escort me to and fro, bring my meals to my room, probe my cavities, and generally look after me. They know me by number rather than by name.
i feel like my role in life is to help.
All I know for sure is that I am here for love – to show others what true love really is. I’m a lover and a good one too. I’ve been able to do things for women that several men before me couldn’t do. I’ve been able to show others a completely different and intense experience than ever imagined. Sigh… Now to either win the heart of my love back or find a new one…? :\
I exist to pay for shit. I’ve no other use. When I die, the government will have me buried in a cheap pine box. Or burnt up and I shall serve as cow feed.
However…when I rise from the dead, there then, shall be my true purpose…
Ugh, right now I feel like a parasite. Leeching from the blood supply and not doing much (yet) to give anything back. I have plans to turn that around…
@Symbeline If you are burnt up to dust when you die, in what form will you rise from the dead? A kind of human shaped dust cloud that hangs together through quantum magnetic forces or something? Or just by authorial fiat?
