Is anyone familiar with Acid Jazz and "Bossa Nova"? Can you give me some suggestions?

I just found out about this awesome guy, Nicola Conte. I need to get some more of this stuff. What are some other artists like this?

Oh man, I’m not in anyway really familiar with acid jazz but bossa nova? Hee hee. I think we could talk about the Sergio Mendez dude here altogether. Super cool stuff.

And then there is this song from this 1966(?) movie Un Homme et un Femme ( A Man and a Woman ) and the love song there bossa nova style is just da bomb! Not by Sergio Mendez though. Wait, is samba the same as bossa nova? I have no idea! LOL.

The song’s name is Samba Saravah or Samba da Bencao. You may not like it but give it a try.

When I read “Bossa Nova,” I thought of The Legend of Zelda.

Sadly, that’s all that comes to mind.

Oh Yes! I love that stuff.

I would suggest some cool stuff from the 60’s, especially Antonio Carlos Jobim with Joao Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto

I would highly recommend this CD called Compact Jazz which is one of my favorite records of all time.

And the Soundtrack from the movie Black Orpheus with Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa. You can see and hear some clips from the movie Here

Also check out this album with Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz Getz/Gilberto

And definitely Brasil 66, especially this song Mais Que Nada

If you can find this Bossa Nova USA Dave Brubeck Quartet album, consider yourself lucky. Listen to some Brubeck Bossa Nova

You might also like Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones (which was used in the Austin Powers movie).

Here’s something pretty cool that I just found, something modern called Hey Sugar by a band called Bossa Nova.

Thievery Coroporation’s Mirror Conspiracy kind of reminds me of Nicola Conte too.

Very popular bossa nova song of the 60s was The Girl From Ipanema. Its on Youtube.

Sweatpeatxlink is the best version of this song on Youtube. The pix is not so bad, either. jp

Acid Jazz: Jamiroquai and St. Germain

Bossa Nova: Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina.
I guess Hollywood, Mon Amour and Nouvelle Vague are of that genre as well.

@uberbatman No problem, we need to spread this stuff around. We have to stop the spread of mainstream garbage.

How could I have forgotten Bebel Gilberto? She’s Joao Gilberto’s daughter.

Here’s another thing I recently discovered Bossa N Marley which is a lot like Thievery Corporation.

You might also like Hotel Bossa Nova
