OK, I’m going back in : )
If you liked Beyond Borders, you might like Something the Lord Made or maybe The Painted Veil
If you like Nell, you might like The Piano or maybe Crosscreek
If you like The Elephant Man, you might like Sense and Sensibility or the mini-series Bleak House or even Shadowlands
If you like The Count of Monte Cristo, you might like The Bounty or maybe Robin Hood or even Elizabeth and maybe The Lion in Winter
If you like Man on Fire, you might like Law Abiding Citizen or Nobel Son
If you like Hannibal, you might like Bram Stoker’s Dracula
If you like Shutter Island, you might like Gothika or the version of Dracula with Frank Langella
If you like Kill Bill, you might like Wanted or maybe Unknown or even Duplicity
If you like Underworld, you might like the Eclipse movies (but I’m guessing that you probably don’t) but you might like either An American Werewolf in London or it’s sequel An American Werewolf in Paris or possibly The Wolfman (although I was kind of disappointed by it)
If you appreciated (I couldn’t bear to say like) The Stoning of Soraya M. you also appreciate “Not Without My Daughter (although it has nothing like the realistic horror factor of your movie). If you appreciate movies that show man’s inhumanity to man, you should rent Schindler’s List (which to this day, I’ve been unable/unwilling to do, because these kinds of movies rip at my psyche and make me cry and re-live the horror over and over again). You might also try Sophie’s Choice or even somewhat removed from this, but still disturbing and showing the consequences of what happens when women are treated at property, or less than human, is Monster which could also fit into the category with Man on Fire.
Again, if you appreciated Crash, then you might appreciate Monster’s Ball
And that brings us to Sweeney Todd. You might like that movie for several reasons. You might love Johnny Depp in just about anything. If that’s the case, then I would suggest Chocolat. Or you might love Alan Rickman in anything (which is the case with me) and in that case I’d recommend either The Search for John Gissing or possibly Perfume. Or you might go in for Tim Burton style macabe and if that is the case then Perfume will work for that, as will Sleepy Hollow and Corpse Bride or maybe Coraline (which wasn’t as good as I had hoped, but the animation was great) or maybe even Beetlejuice or one of my previous entries from the first list, Young Sherlock Holmes
This new list, along with the old list ought to keep you busy for awhile. Enjoy!
