Mac users: Does your internet connection ever just "drop" for no reason?

I have a 13-inch MacBook Air and a couple years ago I had a 15-inch MacBook Pro. I noticed this problem on both computers; sometimes the internet just “quits”. I have to disconnect from the network through AirPort and reconnect and everything’s fine, but it shouldn’t drop in the first place.
Google searching reveals this to be a common problem with Mac computers but solutions are varied and unreliable. I know a lot of people on this site use Macs, so I’m just wondering, do any of the other Mac users on this site ever encounter this problem where the internet just cuts out? If so, have you discovered a solution to it?
I remember it was happening to several of my roommates last year where their connections would drop and they’d complain that the internet was down, but it would still be working on my PC. Is this just some widespread problem that Apple has never fixed?

When using built-in Airport I have never had a problem. And anything looks like a huge problem if you google it.
I didn’t realize it was an issue for other Macs as well, but I do have the same problem on my MacBook with the built-in AirPort. I’ll be doing stuff online and then all of a sudden, a page with just take forever to load and then eventually tell me I’m not connected. Though my AirPort status bar up top still shows all the bars for my connectivity and that I’m connected.
When it happens, I just turn off AirPort and then turn it back on. Once I turn it back on, it instantly connects again to my network and my pages load right away. I honestly figured it was just because my MacBook is getting old and it’s time for me to get a new one. At least that’s what I’ve been telling my husband.
@Seaofclouds Yep, that’s the exact problem I have. And my computer is brand new, so I don’t think it’s the age of the computer affecting it.
I have never experienced it with mine. But my husband’s Macbook did have problems so he used ethernet cable.
I have a problem, but only with E3000 Linksys wireless. Other wireless NO.
I can go for weeks and suddenly Linksys is there but NOT connecting to Mac. Go back to D-Link okay no problem.
My internet doesn’t drop but my browser freezes and quits abruptly every day.
@DominicX Since your computer is brand new, you might want to have your AirPort checked out, just to be safe. I was just doing some searching and it seems like for some people it was because their AirPort was dying, and for others it seems to be hardware/software issues. I’m really disappointed that this seems to be an issue for so many people (with new and old MacBooks). I was looking forward to getting a new one and being rid of this problem. Now I’m worried I’ll get a new one and keep having the same problem.
I have this problem and thought it was my router… my macbook is dying in pieces – first the cd drive went, then I have intermittent issues like the airport… am not sure i will get another mac when this one goes
This is not just a Mac thing.
I have had this issue with Toshibas, Acers, IBMs, Dells, Netgear USB adapters, Netgear routers, D-link routers, Linksys routers….
Wifi is a fickle thing.
Got a Macbook Pro and do not recall ever having the problem.
@jerv Sometimes I think I should just have the ethernet hooked up when I’m at home.
I guess I assumed it was a Mac thing because I don’t have this problem with my Sony, but I had a lot of problems with this on my old Dell (though people told me that was an issue with Windows Vista).
I just can’t wait until the days when hard drives are replaced with “clouds” and we rely on unreliable wi-fi for absolutely everything…~
I think it’s something to do with the settings of your wireless modem. I had to reconfigure my modem to be WPA instead of WEP, and now it still cuts out every now and again but less frequently. This is a glitch specific to macs and particular internet service providers.

@DominicX I cant tell if anyone has answered this yet or not, I am pretty tired and reading hurts my head. (apologies)
Anyway, I know the answer. This has to do with how your wireless is set up.
On your router, I would bet that you have your channel set to auto. My MBP does not like this. If you go to the router config, and select a channel it should fix the issue.
What that does is it automatically changes channels for the wireless to be run on. Most network devices pick that up and work seemelessly. My Macbook hates it, and I usually have to reboot. So switch the channel. Switch it to something that is not in the middle.
If you have an Iphone or an Android, download a wifi analyzer and pick a channel that is not being used for best preformance. PM me if this doesnt make any sense, the day has been rough.
