The fate of two penguins isn’t going to make much difference in the survival of the species while we kick the shit out of their habitat. Let them be as they want.

No, definitely not, they can be used to help hatch eggs that have been rejected by other penguins see this artice
That is cruel. many species of penguin are monogamous. I cant believe the zoo would do that.
Also if they are gay, surely they wont want to mate with females anyway. And what is the use of an African penguin breeding program in Canada. There is fantastic work being done by SANCCOB in Cape Town, saving these birds, I have been there and done volunteer work. They don’t have a breeding program but rather rehabilitate penguins and other seabirds and also raise awareness in the area where these birds are native. One pair of male penguins in Canada isn’t going to make much difference to the population now is it.
I am definitely against splitting these guys up.

How will separating them promote survival? Are they going to magically change their prolivity just because they are not together? Now if we are talking penguin/emu sex then yes, separate them because that is unnatural.

janbb's avatar

NO!! I am a firm believer in Gay Penguin rights!

Blackberry's avatar

Of course not. Would we do that with humans?

muppetish's avatar

I think this is just another example of people imposing human ethos onto the world around us. It’s a stupid, counter-productive “solution” that will probably prove more detrimental for the two penguins in question than they are presently able to foresee.

Meego's avatar

Don’t split them up! I hate how we have to impose our lifestyle on everything, damn if we could change the trees to have non falling leaves we would! And there’s a reason why we can’t.

I find it ironic that we will promote human being population control but we want to save all populations of animal species.

mazingerz88's avatar

Only if they demand marriage rights. Bwahahaha!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

They should just leave the penguins alone. :\ They are monogamous animals, it’s terrible to take them away from the mate they’ve chosen. Are they even sure it will work? Will they mate with other penguins?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf GA! Few people know that. Then again, most people know squat about animal behavior.

Brian1946's avatar

I agree with the above answers, except that I wouldn’t separate non-human animals of different species that voluntarily bonded with each other either.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Brian1946 Good point. Who the hell appointed humans as arbittrators for the rest of the world?

Blackberry's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe The human ego, so themselves. :(

rojo's avatar

Oooh, @Adirondackwannabe we are getting into christian religious territory here.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

OMG, there are gay penguins? Blasphemy! I bet they’ve got AIDS, the dirty fuckers! Someone tell them what they’re doing is a sin and they’re going to Hell!

Ummmm…. I don’t know if things could get any more ridiculous at this point.

john65pennington's avatar

Should this also be applied to humans?

mazingerz88's avatar

@john65pennington No, but with this human, I’m not so sure.

It is accepted fact that gay penguins dress much better than straigbt penguins. By remaining in society, their fashion sense rubs off on the straight penguins. It is accepted fact that every girl is crazy bout a sharp dressed man. Therefor, the penguin population is actually more secure with the gay penguins showing the straight ones how to tie a proper half Windsor knot.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies GA, plus they’re better decorators.

GladysMensch's avatar

They should be split up and sent to separate religious clinics to pray the gay away. If those penguins are allowed to remain together then the very fabric of monogamy will break down around us. What’s next, human / penguin relationships? This goes much further than the survival of penguins. The survival of the human race is at stake. Why would any man choose a human female when the sweet embrace of penguin lust is on the table? I know I wouldn’t.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@GladysMensch Michelle, is that really you?

mazingerz88's avatar

First, check out my avatar. That is me asking, “So where did my same sex partner go?”

jazmina88's avatar

I read this the other day. and i’m sad. Why would the penguin want to sleep around? He would need a penguin therapist.
Let be penguins be happy.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

I don’t think it was gay butt sex that killed the dodo birds…

DominicX's avatar

There’s something adorable about the concept of gay penguins… ^_^

janbb's avatar

BTW, there is a real case of a gay penguin couple raising a chick in a zoo. Check out the book And Tango makes Three.

@ANef_is_Enuf

Thanks for the link.

Luckily my wife got a Facebook account. Apparently she did something somewhere that gives me unfettered access to Facebook-hosted activities, so I was able to sign the petition.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Jeez, next thing you know, the gay penguins are gonna want the same rights as all the other animals!

augustlan's avatar

That is just flat out ridiculous.

Also, if they’re so worried about reproduction, is there some reason they couldn’t artificially inseminate a female with some gay male penguin goodies?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Penguin goodies? roflmao

janbb's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate You think there aren’t??

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Oh, I’m sure there are, I’m just howling with laughter over the technical terminology.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Penguin goodies? LMAO Oh man that’s funny.

augustlan's avatar

It’s a technical term, I know. ~

lonelydragon's avatar

That’s ridiculous. They probably won’t mate with females, anyway. Why not just use them to hatch rejected eggs?
