Why is my iPad kicking me out of my apps? It just started doing this recently. What's up?

Asked by lillycoyote (24875points) November 9th, 2011

Sometimes the apps work; frequently they don’t. The app will load and then kind of hover there, looking like it’s going to be o.k. and then fail, kick me out, taking me back to the home screen. I try again, it kicks me out again. Over and over. It’s happened with the App Store app, the iPad Kindle app, Hulu and several others. Why is it doing this? Does my iPad hate me now? Is Mercury in retrograde? Do I need an update or a downgrade of some kind? Is it just plain broken?

It’s an iPad 1 or whatever a not-an-iPad-2 is called.

And please, while this question is in social, if you could, I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t take any hostility or antipathy you may have, for or toward Apple products or the company itself, out on my question. Thank you. :-)

My iPod Touch does this sometimes. A hard restart should fix it. On the iPad press and hold sleep/wake button for around five seconds. A red slider should appear. Then you just start it back up. An Apple logo should appear for about a minute while it reboots.

This happened to my iPod Touch once, along with not letting me listen to most of my songs. I’m pretty sure what happened was that a sync got interrupted while it was plugged into the computer. All it took was plugging it back into the computer and re-syncing it and it’s been working fine ever since then!

My ipad does weird stuff too. It started happening after an update I did a long while back. There have been other updates since, and I still have the same problems. I have my internet sometimes just close, I think it happens with apps too, I need to watch for it and let you know for sure. All too often I can’t shrink/minimize an internet page. I can open a new internet page, but then I can’t shrink that one either, I need to power off and reboot to fix it. It’s annoying.

My iPod Touch did this several times a day, and no amount of restarts or wiping out out and restoring it ever cured that. You are experiencing the reason I dislike iOS; as cool as it is in many ways, it is not reliable or stable.

Thanks guys! I meant get back here sooner.

@johnpowell The hard restart worked. Everything is fine now.

@mangeons I tried the easiest solution first so luckily I was able to avoid resyncing.

@JLeslie I’ve been having that problem recently too, not being able to resize web page, but after the hard restart I could do it. You might want to give it a try.

@jerv As far as the restart goes on my iPad, good so far. It fixed my problems.
