Apparently it’s been reported that the most used word in the written media & on the internet in the past year was occupy.
A surprising result, but there you go.
As you can probably guess, this “revelation” was indeed the inspiration behind my question.
So, which word do you reckon appears most frequently across these pages?
Go wherever you want with this, it’s up to you.

Awesome, actually, definitely (and its myriad spelling variations), boink, zombie, lol, and Milo.
And the ubiquitous it’s instead of its.
I’m sure I’m going to “loose” this one.
Your – as a contraction for you are.
Sorry, @rebbel – coincidence.
Damn, I thought you would get that it was on purpose, as a response to @janbb‘s loose.
I would have written your anyway my friend.
I would say “occupy” is popular because of the movement. I would venture to guess the word “I” is used often, if not most often.
@EmptyNest Yeah, that was one primary reason, along with occupied/occupation of certain war torn countries.
The most popular words are going to be to, and, as, a, the, of, an, and on and on. There are some thirty words that comprise a large portion of our word use. What we need is to put fluther posts for the last year into a word counting program or a word cloud program and see what happens. Didn’t we used to have a word cloud on here somewhere.
Where is JohnPowell when we need him? Maybe he could do a word count for us.

Boobs
I don’t really think that, just wanted to say it.
@chyna Who are you calling a boob?
Two words I see/use often would be thanks & congrats, which is nice!
I can’t believe I just did this. I grabbed the html for 140 question and figured out the word frequency. Keep in mind I didn’t strip out the HTML/CSS/Javascript. The layout is a bit fucked but I stopped caring after about 45 minutes.
140 questions containing 263,186 words <—Warning, that might take a little while to load on a slow connection.
@johnpowell I can’t believe you did it either, there’s boredom…..dedication for you.
Should be surprised to see flag figure prominently, but i’m not.
Food, recipe, hungry, drooling…
@johnpowell Interesting list. I was about to say how surprised I was that “Great” and “Answer” were the top two non-common words but then I realised that every post says “Great Answer” under it.
