My arm and shoulder keep twitching, what's wrong with me?

Asked by NostalgicChills (2787points) November 15th, 2011

Title says it all.
It’s really annoying, and sometimes it can continue for an hour.
And some are extremely noticeable. So what’s the reason for this?

Could you be dehydrated? Has this been going on for a long time or did it just start? (Like hick-ups?)

If you drink caffeine, I recommend cutting down, and maybe completely eliminating it to see if it stops. If it does not stop in a few days to a week, depending on how much it is happening, I would go to the doctor.

I am not preachy about caffeine, and I typically am not one to recommend running to a doctor. I tell you this because I don’t want you to dismiss my caffeine idea as flighty or that I am an all natural, go organic type person, I’m not.

Remember to taper your caffeine, don’t go cold turkey. Do it over a few days, and expect a bad headache and feeling very tired. Ibuprofen should help with the headache.

I would see your doctor.

I have no idea what’s wrong, but I’d go to a doctor. It could be nothing. It could be something wrong with your nervous system. It doesn’t sound normal. Good luck.

@Judi
This has been happening on and off for the past year.
@JLeslie I drink one cup of coffee in the morning, and I only started drinking a month ago, but the twitching occurred way before that.

@NostalgicChills And, no caffeinated sodas? Coke, Mountain Dew, etc? Then I think probably go to a doctor, but only a neurologist can test the muscles and nerve conduction. i hate to say I think they will find nothing, but on theoff chance it is something serious or degenerative it would have been worth it. Of course we are only going by your description, you can’t rely on an internet diagosis.

I was having thum twitching several months sgo, went on for a long time at times, but I had been cheating with caffieine (I quit many years ago, but cheat on andoff, especialy in the last two years). I quit again and it stopped. I was pretty nervous because I have other muscle troubles that are undiagnosed, doctors tell me I am normal, and I am far from normal.

Oh, Vitamin D and Iron seem to help my muscle troubles, I have no idea if they actually do, but there seems to be a correlation. But, I am dificient in both typically, really dificult to keep my numbers up in the normal ranges.

You are attempting to create a new dance, but you do not know it.

@JLeslie Nope, no sodas whatsoever. It’s not allowed in my household.
@john65pennington That was funny! XD
