Care to share some recipes, what could I cook that would make a nice romantic meal for two?

Asked by poisonedantidote (21685points) November 16th, 2011

My girlfriend just went to work, and she wont be back for 8 hours. I’m going to go in to town and do some shopping. I intend to cook her a nice meal for when she comes home.

I’m an ok cook, the things I make are always nice, but my range of recipes is a little limited, and could use a new one or two.

I am now living in the UK, and shops here have much more choice than in Spain, so I should be able to get any ingredients I need.

What could I prepare for my girlfriend tonight? I was thinking 3 courses, starter, main and desert.

(we are both allergy free and have a wide range of tastes)

I may be playing devils advocate here and can only advise you what Not to do.
Forget the salad, you will never find quality tomatoes/lettuce/onions in the UK as you can in the Med, It wont be the same.
I hope my negativity helps. (I tried to make a Greek meal in the UK for my Greek wife…salad was fail)

I recommend the Intercourses cookbook. Ok, there’s not really any science behind the aphrodisiacs, but it’s still insanely yummy and a bit of a placebo effect of putting you both in the mood. Here are some sample recipes from it. You can view a (rough) list of the recipes in the index shown on Amazon, and if you see any you like, lemme know and I’ll give you a copy.

Chicken with cashews. There something erotic about the texturue and feel of the oiled cashews when you eat them with chop sticks.
If you want it to be romantic, go easy on the red pepper flakes.

And of course there’s always Brie.

Jeez!... I’m getting a buzz already.

@zensky It’s getting me in the mood just flippin’ through the pages…

mmm, @worriedguy ,
Its making me horngry

@Boogabooga1 As you put each cashew in your mouth you feel their warm, slippery texture. Once inside, you push your tongue against them they split in half releasing a slightly salty taste not unlike sweat.
Use chop sticks, not a shovel spoon.

I’m pretty sure it was the consumption of chicken and cashews that caused the population boom in China before they got wise and enforced birth limits.

Brie warmed to a couple of degrees above body temp is about as sensuous as you can get. But it is not enough for a meal.

The best romantic dinner I ever had started with White Castle Slingers and a bottle of Mad Dog.

Dessert was spectacular.

Some suggestions:

Lasagna

Steak with rice or potatoes and french cut green beans

Breaded pork chops with julienne veggies and noodles

Bacon wrapped shrimp with rice and peas

To start,

Buy mini pyhlo shells and fill them with crab meat mixed with mayo and green onions. Very sensual. Heat in a 400 degree oven 10 minutes.

For the entree, what about salmon. I like it broiled on a bed of creamed spinach (with nutmeg and onions).

Dessert? Anything will do. For fall, how about pears poached in pear brandy with cheese.

@everyone

Thanks for all the input so far, I had to go shopping before I got any answers, but I wil be using the info in the answers for tomorrows meal.

Today its… a small cesar salad to start, small because, yes, in the UK produce is not as nice, even the expensive organic stuff from morrisons is not as good as regular market stall produce in Spain.

The main meal is turkey filets in cream of mushroom sauce with bacon bits, with steamed borcolli and runner/flat beans.

The desert I’m going with wild berries in honey and ceam with chocolate shavings served in a champagne flute.

Thanks for all the answers so far, keep em coming.

It isn’t so much what you serve, but how you serve it. Lit candles and a nicely set table contribute to the atmosphere. Something for a centerpiece that has meaning for both of you . . . it could be a stuffed toy you gave her, a picture of the two of you, a shell from a beach, just something special to you both, silly or sentimental. And quiet music in the background.

Box of wild rice mix Rice ‘o Roni- use only half of seasoning packet.

Two artichokes with the tops/leaves cut off. Steam the scraped and snipped hearts until tender, drizzle with lemon juice, clarified butter and a little salt.

If she likes meat, pick up two ribeyes, rub with cut clove of garlic, smoosh in crushed black pepper and salt. You can broil them in the oven or pan sear them on med-low.
