How did the words "fluther" and "lurve" become featured vocabulary?

Asked by digitalimpression (9920points) November 16th, 2011

I suppose only the creators know the answer perhaps but:

What is a “fluther” really? How did “you” come up with this as a site name? And lurve? Is that from the movie Annie Hall? Or somewhere else?

I’m like a cat holding a knife, facing off with a curiosity with a gun.

Fluther was chosen by Ben and Andrew because it is one of the words for a group of jellyfish (like a flock of birds). You can read about it an article.

I don’t know where they got lurve, but it was in use before Fluther.

@marinelife is correct. Fluther is a collective of jellyfish (hence the phrase “tap the collective”).

Lurve is a bastardization of the word love. I don’t know how Ben and Andrew chose it to represent what is referred to as “karma” “upvotes” and “points” on other sites, but it matches the cutesy theme of Fluther.

Freely acknowledged by Andrew and Ben, lurve was originally used by Woody Allen in the film “Annie Hall.”

Do you love me?

Love is too weak a word. I lerve you. You know, I lo-ove you. I luff you. There are two “f’s.” I have to invent… of course I love you.

The lurvely jellies above have given you the answers. Now go have fun with lurve and fluther and coin some of your own: flunking is mine – when you fluther while drunk.

:-)

Hmm. Attempting to search for what a fluther is, all I can get is this website. XD

Who are Andrew and Ben? Hmm, perhaps I should do some more reading.

Andrew and Ben founded fluther. We pray to them.

@zensky Well, I would thank them maybe… certainly not pray to them. =)

You may alternately pray to bob_.
