Is there any way that I can put on weight in a healthy way?

I look at myself in the mirror and I think “I’m too skinny.”
I’m the skinniest girl in my class and everyone says that “Oh my god, you are so skinny!”
I don’t like being so skinny. So are there any foods that I can eat to put on weight, but are healthy at the same time?

Avocados. All the best kinds of fat.
To gain you have to take in more calories than you burn. Simple concept, same idea as losing weight. Protein helps. Be careful just trying to add weight so you don’t add it as fat. Maybe workout a little while increasing your calories. Nuts have a lot of fat, but it’s considered a “good” fat. Maybe talk with your doctor first to get their thoughts.
Be very careful in trying because though you change your diet, the weight still might not come… until years later and then you won’t want it. Seriously, the better way to go is to up your protein and healthy fats and leave your youth as it is.
Dr Nick Riviera recommends a slow steady gorging process combined with assal horizontology. You’ll want to focus on the neglected food groups such as the whipped group, the congealed group and the chocotastic! Be creative. Instead of making sandwiches with bread, use poptarts. Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon. And remember, if you’re not sure about something, rub it against a piece of paper. If the paper turns clear, it’s your window to weight gain.
ok, that’s probably not the healthiest option
…are those girls just jealous? =]
If you really wanna gain, it’s simple to do it while being healthy ay the same time. Eat foods packed with proteins and calories, but just make sure it’s healthy..try going for natural or organic foods. Things like peanut butter, steak, red meat, chicken, vegetables (yes, dark green vegetables have protein), fish, grains, and nuts.
You can snack on many of these daily. Try having multiple smaller meals rather than 3 large meals. Keep a healthy exercise regimen, but don’t overdo it.
It’s simple to get started, keepng up is the hard part.
Why do you think you’re so skinny? Do you not have a good appetite? Are you very active and not taking in enough calories to compensate (as I recall you have a broken ankle right now so I imagine that’s not it!)? Or is it maybe genetic? Is your mum really skinny too?
I have the same problem. Part of it for me is because of health problems, which is unavoidable, part of it is genetic, which is unavoidable, but part of it is because I have a crummy appetite, which is treatable. I take a pediatric appetite stimulant called periactin. It’s just an antihistamine and there are no side effects. Of course I don’t recommend medicating unless it’s a real problem.
Weight bearing exercise is a good suggestion, if you’re able to do that right now.
Mainly you’ll just have to eat more. Avacadoes are a good suggestion. Olive oil too is a nice healthy fat. And listen to your cravings. I think it’s just about impossible to gain weight if you don’t do that. A donut now and then really isn’t that bad for you, especially when you’re trying to gain.
It’s tricky because most people are trying to do the opposite and so all the so-called “health tips” you’re being bombarded with all the time aren’t actually healthy for you.
Thank you all sooo much for your replies! I really appreciate them :)
@Male Lol! I dunno, maybe, but most of the girls that have said that to me are my friends :)
@Mariah You know, it is part genetic, because my mother’s brothers are very skinny too. But both of my parents are heavy people, and I eat like two chocolate bars a day anyway, so not eating doughnuts isn’t a problem. I have been inactive due to my injured ankle, but I walk to and from school every day.
Oh and how and where can I find out about weight gaining exercises? I’m afraid I don’t know any :/
Any form of weight lifting will make you gain weight (in the form of muscle).
@MilkyWay Light weights, lots of reps and as many different things as you can think of. That will give you muscle tone instead of bulk.
Yes, eat healthy. Fruits, vegetables and drink a lot of liquids. Water and fresh juices.
Some people just naturally have a high metabolism. They eat normally but stay skinny. It sounds like this might be you. Many people are envious of this because the people who have this kind of metabolism can eat as much as they want and not gain weight. But it’s no more fun to be called Twiggy (as I was) or Stringbean than it is to be called Fatso.
I came from a family of skinny people. My mother actually used to give us this supplement called Weight On to help us gain weight! My mother was a nurse so believe me when I say that she fed us a nutritionally sound diet in adequate quantities. Basically what you need are more calories and it’s best to get them from foods with good nutritional value, i.e. healthy fats (low saturated fat and no trans fat) complex carbohydrates (think whole grain, brown rice, vegetables) and low in refined carbohydrates and sugar. Weight training is a good idea but if you do it you need to eat even more because muscle burns fat.

Make it a habit to read food labels and educate yourself about healthy eating. I like Prevention magazine. It has good articles on exercise and nutrition. Look for easy healthy recipes so you can cook yourself good food. These are good habits for anyone to learn. There are healthy foods like yogurt and hummus that make excellent snacks. Keep them on hand and try to have a snack a couple times a day even if you you don’t feel that hungry. I am not saying to binge, just keep your body well stoked with calories!!!

Good luck and remember, when it comes to being able to eat what you want without gaining too much weight, many people wish they were in your shoes!
P.S. Have you checked with your doctor that you don’t have a health problem that interferes with your metabolism?
Thanks @Earthgirl !
And yes, I did check with my doctor, he said everything was fine and that as long as I ate healthy and stayed active, I shouldn’t worry about anything. Unfortunatley, he said he couldn’t give me something to increase my appetite. But hey, no worries :)
