Ok, you’re in charge of your own dictatorship and you fail to promote yourself? What a loser. Did he think he wasn’t cut out for a generalship or did he just like the way colonel sounded?

My understanding is that he wanted to maintain a title that was of a lower rank in order for the country to look upon him as ‘one of them’.
It was part of his persona, actually. He maintained that he wasn’t actually the leader of Libya either.
By not promoting himself to General he… what Pied Pfeffer said.
Self styled revolutionaries seem to stay at their rank when they throw over the government. That way they retain their revolutionary status. For instance, Castro is El Commandante, not General.
Because he wanted to be a One Thousand Star General but they won’t fit on his uniform? Lol. Sorry.

The former. He was a very humble, self conscious man.
General is so, well, phonetic. There’s no mystery there, as with Colonel. It’s so cool how it’s spelt thus while pronouncing it like his favourite snack, popcorn. How’s the popcorn in hell, Muamar?
This question would have suited better in General, me thinks.~
