Could this be true regarding English and Composition classes?

Asked by Aster (20028points) November 19th, 2011

A friend told me that her friend, a teacher, said that schools are no longer allowed to teach grammar. If so, what would an English and Composition teacher teach? I weep for our future.

My son is in 4th grade and I can assure you that he is being taught grammar and has been his whole time in school so far.

Perhaps she meant that teachers were not allowed to correct grammar in assignments for classes other than English class?

Sounds preposterous to me. My grandchildren are starting to learn grammar in school.

During the Bush era tax cuts, a little known amendment was attached to the tax bill that let the 1% keep nearly all their income. It outlawed the teaching of grammar in public schools with the hope that people would grow up too dumb to know that the rich were stealing their very back yards, not to mention their language. The reason why the supercommittee can’t come to an agreement, is that they don’t want the public to know about the antigrammar legislation.
