Do you ever wake up in the mornings with a familiar song in your head, even one you don't like? Why is that?

Asked by MRSHINYSHOES (14001points) November 20th, 2011

Sometimes when I wake up in the mornings, there’s a song in my head. It’s like when an annoying song sticks in your head and it stays there for awhile, but this happens when I wake up (sometimes when I go to bed too). Does this happen to you too sometimes? I wonder why this happens.

Not to me. I wake with recent dreams in my head and try to go back to them.

I suppose it would if I woke or fell asleep to music, but I don’t.

This has been a nightmare for the last two nights….......this song

When Will I See You Again by The Three Degrees

I love this timeless song, but its beginning to haunt me.

Man that always happens to me. It’s really weird, and the song will stay in my head for quite a bit. Been watching AVGN videos lately, so right now, this is always in my head when I wake up.

But sometimes I have songs that are seemingly out of nowhere. That I know I’ve heard before obviously, but haven’t heard for so long, so it seems weird that all of a sudden, I’m stuck with them. Some of those far away songs disappear really fast, and then I can’t even remember how they go, which is very odd. Kind of like fading dreams you remmeber when you first wake up, but can’t remember ten minutes later.

I sometimes hear totally unfamiliar songs in my “dreams”. For example, on two occasions, I dreamt hearing the late Karen Carpenter singing a nice song I never heard before, and I’m a Carpenters fan who knows all their songs. Eerie.

@MRSHINYSHOES Was the song you heard in the dream an actual song?

I once dreamt that I was fighting a gigantic spider with a can of bugspray, and for some reason, there was a song playing during the fight. It was ACDC, and they just kept screaming ’‘insecticide’’ the whole time. Not a real song they made, but it was messed up lol.

The second I put my head on my pillow the other night a Twisted Sister song appeared in my mind. I don’t know where it came from. I haven’t listened to them in years.

It took me 45 minutes to fall asleep.

@Symbeline I heard most of the song, and some of the words too.

I have had ear worms persist for days, like every time my mind is not focused on something it’ll pop back into my head. Occasionally they are songs I can’t stand, that if I heard on the radio I’d immediately switch stations. My only hope is to sing a song I like until it replaces the one I don’t like.

I’m a bit disappointed to say, I could not recall this ever happening to me, yet.

For a time a while back i’d wake up internally singing this shite!!
I genuinely felt that if I turned to my left i’d see Howard Keel lying in bed next to me, puffing on a cigarette…......the dirty bugger :¬(

I have a song in my head pretty much constantly, so yeah. Frequently, it’s a song I can’t stand, too. It’s so annoying!

Yes, this has happened to me :)

@MRSHINYSHOES OK, you jinxed me. I woke up this morning with a song in my head. Now I at least know it was @MRSHINYSHOES fault now.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

@blueiiznh Was it “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head?”, from that movie (which I don’t recall the name?)? Lol-lol!

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

@Symbeline It was definitely a song, but not a Carpenters song. A song I never ever heard before, but it was Karen’s voice.

blueiiznh's avatar

@MRSHINYSHOES That movie is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The song was the one I have listed first in my profile

@blueiiznh Ah yes, that’s the title. I take it you have seen it.
