I wanted to be a lawyer or a stock broker when I grew up but my mother encouraged me to be something more respectable like a piano player in a whore house so that’s what I did. Mother is so proud.
An Astronomer or a paleontologist. Not I’m pursuing it in anyway.
An artist. I was always the weird kid in class that won all the art contests. My parents even let me take private art lessons over summer. When applying to colleges, I did a portfolio for a prestigious college that only let like 50 students into its graphic arts program, and when I got my review back I got a 9/10…you had to get a 10/10. I was so immensely, supremely disappointed. It was my dad’s alum so he was really disappointed too. I cut that part of me off and went another direction, into science…which I love, but still have had my confidence shaken in art.
When I was young, my parents saw I could draw pictures, so after High School, I was off to Art School. Years later I quit Art School 1 semester away from graduation. Reason: no jobs! I didn’t want to move to NYC or LA & compete for the few jobs in advertising. What resulted from my education in art? psyla.com
When I was about 6 or 7, for some strange reason, I wanted to be a ninja. Must’ve been some strange fascination of mine. But when I got older, I found out that I wanted to be in the entertainment business.
Wanted to become a hairdresser, but I also wanted to be an actress, a sailor (or join the navy) or cop.
The main objective was always to travel and see more places.
I did do work-practice at a salon and on a passenger ferry, but didn’t pursue either career, although I am currently living in country number 3, so that part I’m still pursuing.
First I wanted to be an astronaut. Unfortunately, my childhood fear of roller coasters killed that one.
Then I wanted to be a CIA agent. I later realized that I would probably die, so that dream went down the toilet.
Agent jcs007, I was also petrified of roller coasters. I’d climb up the high stairs about 25% up holding Dad’s hand, then I’d bug out & run back down. Did you also have any fear of elephants? At the zoo, I could not look them in the eye! I’d cover my eyes. Ganesh!
Exactly what i’m doing now. Forensic Anthropologist. I’ve always wanted to do that and to teach.
If makes you all feel any better. I STILL have hopes and dreams that I’m going to acquire.
As I got older, I wanted to be a Psychologist, or at least a Theoretical Physicist.
Accountant (specifically a CPA).. That didn’t last long once I started taking classes in accounting. So I switched to the enjoyable degree that is know as economics.
I used to dream of being a race car driver; Indy style. Not in circles with a stock car. Who would have guessed that marketing would be a close second? I get to race through traffic to my next meeting!! Oh boy!
I always wanted to make sound effects for cartoons…but this was before I knew about recording and computers, so I figured I would just make the noises with my mouth. Like the RRRR RRRR SCREECH RRRR for a race car scene. I still like to do this with my 4 year old. Good thing I did all that practicing. : )
I wanted to be a truck driver when I was in middle school and a “fashion” photographer, just like thousands of other high school girls.
I think if I wasn’t married with children, I could still be a truck driver. I’m an introvert and I love driving long distances.
I wanted to be a CEO. Of what, I had no idea.
I want to own my own video production company. And I’m going to school just for that.
Rich and powerful. Working on it.
I didn’t want to be a loser that’s for sure!
I studied to be a prima ballerina. I was about a year away from auditioning for positions with major companies, when puberty set it. (Yes, I was a late bloomer.) Anyway, in a six month period, I watched my body make drastic changes, and as my boobs & hips got bigger & my waist smaller my hopes & dreams died!! At 17 I had a body most girls would die for & I was so mortified, I just wanted to die!!
I kept dance in my life through my twenties and now I’m an accountant & love it.
good for you, LunaFemme, for outliving the dream and not giving up dancing…
Actually, I was on my way to becoming a concert violinist until I developed a mysterious tremor in my left arm that no one can seem to fix.
I wanted to be a teacher…or a computer programmer…or a writer…or a truck driver.
I looked at my 2nd grade year book a few years ago and it said that “I _____ being of sound mind and body, blah blah blah, and when I grow up I want to be a animal doctor” Well I am proud to say that 17 years later I am finally following my dream and am taking the pre-requisites for my Degree of Veterinarian Medicine at WSU.
