Did you know that Anne McCaffrey died?
She was a science fiction-fantasy writer. The first Queen of the Dragon Riders has gone between.
I will miss her.

Yes. Many hours of my teenage years were spent reading her Pern books.
Two days ago, I was working on a crossword puzzle, and the clue was The Writer of the Dragonriders of (something). I had no idea what the answer was.
Yesterday, the obit was on the radio, and I thought “how odd that this should happen just after seeing a clue about her”.
Your mentioning it today reminded me to pick up the magazine, and fill in that clue.
I might have to read the books at this point.
I did. Canadian author Robert J. Sawyer had posted it on Facebook a couple of days ago.
No, that is very sad news, I love her writing.
One of my Facebook contacts posted about it, but I wouldn;t have known otherwise. I’ve not read any of her books since I was in my teens though.
My nephew posted it on FB, it broke my heart. Here’s to you, Anne, like Helva, may you keep on singing!
When I heard that she died, I was surprised because I could have sworn she died about 15 years ago. Now I’m trying to figure out which big time female fantasy author died back then and I had been assuming was McCaffrey all these years.
@keobooks : Marion Zimmer Bradley, maybe? I think she died in 1999…
@JilltheTooth BINGO! That’s exactly who it was. I was working in a bookstore and I was on the team of people who would make special displays when an author died. So I knew someone died back then, I just couldn’t remember who.
We used to do that, too, in various bookstores I worked in. We’d go for a full-on “homage display”!
Oh!! Good to know.
When I was younger I wanted to do an anime version of “Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern”. I guess I will have to ask her family for the rights now if it ever happens…
That’s too bad. : ( No more red star. No more thread. : (
