Selling a design.

Asked by bleem2222 (7points) May 15th, 2008

I’m a graphic designer and I want to sell my designs (flash banners, posters, invitations) over the net. How (or where) can I do that?

Set up an eBay or Amazon store.

Yeah, but I was thinkg more about strict design-site, where people can sell thing like that. Only graphics etc.

Since you’re a designer, it might be worth taking the time to make your own custom made store, almost as part of your portfolio. Another option is something like shopify.com.

shopify.com is nice but is there any e-store that would send a design (through the e-mail) or send a download link to a design automaticlly after the client pays for it?

As you are a designer, I would suggest building your own site and make a store of it. If you’re not up on eCommerce, PayPal (amongst others) has lots of easy to set up tools.

Yeah but do you know any e-store that would automaticlly send a file (design) on the clients e-mail or send him a download link after he pays for it?

Places for your consideration:

CafePress.com
threadless.com
zazzle.com
shanalogic.com

And best of luck Bleem!

Thank you for all your replies! I’ll check all the possibilities! But I think 99designs.com is great choice ! Cheers!

Yikes, I would watch out for contest sites like 99 Designs. You do work for free and then have to hope you get paid? This is another example of spec work, and it devalues the industry. One doesn’t get to eat meals and then decide which one they pay for.

If you are looking to sell pre-made artwork, check out iStockPhoto – you can sell vector artwork & designs of all sorts. You choose what you create.

If you are looking for freelance work, your best bet is to build a great online portfolio, do some Google SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for your portfolio site and look into direct mailing services such as Workbook or Agency Access and build a client list.

Yeah, I know this can be flustrating but It’s worth to check it anyway. Thank you for another suggestions, I’ll try iStockPhoto for sure!

At the very least, check out iFreelance.com or Guru.com for projects where you bid on the work, as opposed to contest sites where you are creating the work and then crossing your fingers.

Check out graphicriver.net, I think this is what you’re looking for, Do not use 99designs.com unless your a student or just trying to learn. Shopify.com is for setting up a store online and I don’t think that’s what you’re asking for. You want an outlet that’s already established for stock graphics right? If so, then my first recommendation is your thing.
