How do I poof my elf skirt?
Last winter I sewed an elf costume to wear during my holiday busking. It did a fine job, but this year I’d like it to match the image I had for it, where the skirt was a little poofy. I tried putting a tulle tutu under it, but it just bunched it up. It’s velvety with a fake fur trim. Here’s what it looks like now (and side view).
Will it be possible with this design? Anything I can put under it?
Thanks!

You could make a tierred petticoat with fabric, I found these instructions that are for a longer version but you could make it what ever length you would like. I find tulle seems to catch alot on certain fabrics when you use it as a petticoat but with regular fabric it won’t catch however it will be more time consuming and costly to make.
Tulle may have been too puffy. Try netting gathered at the waist with elastic. The velvet skirt doesn’t look like could handle a lot of bulk under it..
Thanks for the helpful answers, all! @creative1 Good call, the tulle is super catchy. @Sunny2 It is certainly heavy, so I am worried about that. @Earthgirl I do play the accordion! Thanks! It’ll be even better with the new elf shoes and hat I’m working on :) I might just re-make the skirt to be a circle, I’m sure I can find more of the fabric.
Off to work!
I’ll poof it for you. ;-) I got the lungs of a trumpet player!
Have you seen those soft, super-poofy slips that they use for clogging or square dancing? I think that would work.
