What's going on with the point tallying system?

Asked by Sunny2 (18852points) December 1st, 2011

I see I get points but they don’t show up on my total score. Is the system broken? I thought it was petty to care about that, but I’m finding it very annoying.

People can only give you 100 lurve points that will add to your total. If someone has already maxed out on you, the lurve will show in the side-bar, but not on your total.
I have days go by with 20 GAs and none of them add.

Hey @Sunny2 If I like your answers, I give you lurve…. but after the total lurve I’ve given reaches 100, although I can still like your answers and lurve you, your points don’t increase. It makes the system more meaningful, as friends can’t overly increase each other’s lurve tallies. Someone with a high lurve tally has appealed to a LOT of people!

Yup – @JilltheTooth is right. it is frustrating at times.

It seems no-one is bothering to lurve anymore anyway. I have seen questions with dozens of posts and no GQ’s. Posts that remain lurveless, meaning even the person right after the jelly didn’t bother to lurve them, let alone the OP. I feel like Patty Lurveless.

Thank you all for reminding me. I’d forgotten. I’ll stop fussing.

There’s five points for you. I’m not maxxed out on you.

@Adirondackwannabe Thank you! That’s very sweet of you.

@Sunny2 Personal responses get 5 more points. :)

This has had me sit up and recognize that I should be giving more points than I do. I will!

JilltheTooth's avatar

Yes, yes you should! And get a camera so we can see a pix of that tree, too!

So if we want to play the points game, the idea is to recruit new members who will follow us and point us up till they max out. :-)

Not a bad strategy for an individual Jelly or for the Fluther collective.

We could all delete our accounts and then rejoin under different names!

JilltheTooth's avatar

You could be jancc! And I could be JillDentition! No one would ever guess! Ooooh, let’s do it!

We could hold a Fluther Masquerade Ball someday which we would all attend under new user names and later try and guess who everyone was!

My lurve total is very slowly creeping up, but some days if I add up the GAs I have been given I might have clicked up over 180 points. They don’t add to my total though. It is how the system works.

I do agree with @zensky though, I have seen threads where there are few if any GAs. I think perhaps people, and perhaps it is newer people I don’t know, don’t understand how the system works? I know I have commented on posts and forgotten to click good answers but I often go back later and give GAs. I always try to remember to give everyone who posts on my questions GAs.

Don’t worry about points. Remember the real secret is to try to stay under 10,000 and avoid the silly party.

I’m sorry. I’ve been eating everybody’s lurve. It’s a problem of mine and I’m working hard to overcome it.

Bellatrix's avatar

Vomit it up now! Bad @AstroChuck.

Lots of helpful responses. I’m having more respect for jellies in the upper upper stratosphere of point collecting. I think I’m not terribly bright about game strategy and appreciate all the suggestions, not that I’ll be able to utilize them necessarily, but I’ll see what I can do.
Thanks all!

Just give us good answers and questions @Sunny2 and we will lurve you lots :-)

[We probably already did your 100 each though so, it won’t add to your total but we still loves you!]

If you want to know what a closer total is without the limits you can visit http://www.fluther.com/lurve/?page=**** where the asterisks are a number.

For example http://www.fluther.com/lurve/?page=300

Then you can just change the number to find how many pages of lurve you have. About a hundred lurve per page is average. Mine goes back to 1056.

Bellatrix's avatar

Never thought of doing that @johnpowell. 376 pages so far.

@JilltheTooth If we’re changing our names, I’m at a loss at what to do with mine, haha!

Yep, yep, it’s all about the MAX. I get GAs all the time, but most of it doesn’t count toward my lurve score. It’s fine though, I’m here for the jellies I like. If it were just about lurve, I wouldn’t show up.
