I can fall asleep to animal shows on Nat Geo, especially if they’re narrated by an actor with a soothing voice, like James Earl Jones.
If I am tired, I can fall asleep watching anything! I think it is more about sitting still and switching off my brain and ..zzzz off I go.
I don’t leave the TV on when I go to sleep generally though.
My brother used to fall asleep within a few minutes of starting to watch a David Attenborough doco every time. He really wanted to watch them but without fail.. few minutes in… zzzz. I think it’s his soothing voice.
I fall asleep really easily to Antique Road Show….
Sleep inducing: Auction Hunters/Storage Wars, Heavy, Intervention… reality-type shows that have a predictable, repetitive format.
I guiltily watch Netflix episodes of Gossip Girl and other stuff my husband would hate while on the treadmill.
My husband purposely puts on shows about animals in the wild. He says theman who narrates has a calm voice that can allow him to sleep. His second choice is a history or science show that all has one of those middle of the road calm male voices.
For me, I can fall asleep to almost any show. I tend to watch sitcoms and drama hour shows, and that is exactly what I would choose to fall asleep to, because I find watching those shows relaxing. Best if the TV automatically turns off, so it doesn’t possibly wake me in the middle of the night, and I hate to waste electricity.
I fall asleep watching TV pretty easily. But I watch C-SPAN if I’m feeling restless. It’s just interesting enough to not be irritating, but dull enough to put me to sleep.
I can’t easily sleep to ultraviolent, sick torture movies.
It doesn’t matter what it is, I could never fall asleep with the TV on. The sound is the biggest issue, but even if there wasn’t any sound, the light from the TV would bother me. Even with my eyes closed, I could still perceive the flashes and everything. I’m a light sleeper when not drinking, and this kinda stuff is incredibly assaulting to me if I try to sleep. It would never happen.
But for the sake of the question…probably talk shows, the more serious ones where people try to explain stuff, but keep going ’‘and uhmmm…’’ at every three words. I’d say infomercials too, if the sound was really low. It always seems so…robotic and droney. That, and hockey games.
What would be hard to fall asleep to…Xena. It’s too awesome to fall asleep while watching. Plus even if I went to sleep AFTER the episode, chances are, I’d be horny as hell…XD
I should have mentioned that at night my husband cannot stand to have the TV on while trying to fall asleep. It pisses me off, because I prefer to fall asleep with it on. He only does the TV thing for midday naps.
I like shows where it’s pretty well all talk, otherwise I have to keep looking!
@JLeslie My husband and I are the opposite, LOL. He sighs at me every time I ask, “Could you please turn it down a bit?” Some nights I’m so tired that it doesn’t matter, but most nights the noise of the TV, especially commercials because they’re always louder than the show, and the flickering light of the TV keeps me awake.
@WillWorkForChocolate It is actually one of those really annoying differences. It goes along with wanting the house kept at a different temperature in the winter. I hate that he is such a light sleeper. He must have been a dream for his mother. When it is bed time he gets into his position on his side, lights off, total silence. He is totally obedient regarding what the experts and our parents always tell us to do.
Haha! Hubby and I have the temperature disputes also. I’m chilly quite frequently, and he’s manopausal.
I hate having the TV on when I go to bed unless I want to catch the end of something I was watching in the den. I don’t use the word hate often, but I do hate trying to go to sleep with the TV on.
CSpan makes me fall asleep.
I never have the TV on when I go to bed, but I’ve been known to nod off during the news at noon, at 3PM, at 6PM. . .
I fell asleep watching Betty Boop once, not because I was tired though.
I just wanted to dream of her & I humping each other with some awful melodic tune playing away in the background.
For a gal with no neck, she sure has a mighty perdy chassis…neanderthal laughter.
My dad falls asleep within minutes of the snooker coming on telly, despite loving to watch snooker! I think as soon as he sees the green baize and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…..
I fell asleep watching 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time… or rather I drifted in and out of sleep during it… that lead to some very wierd dreams!
I find Michael Palin’s travel programmes to be very soothing and have fallen asleep to them many times.
