Are Ipad users charged a monthly fee?

Asked by Roby (2939points) December 3rd, 2011

I was just wondering if you have to pay a fee for the data that is down loaded on the Ipads?

If you want to connect to 3G+ you will need to have a data sim which will normally cost a monthly charge so that you can connect to the internet on the move. This may or may not include data charges depending on your contract. I think you can always use the iPad without a sim and rely on WiFi to do your downloading but then why spend all that money getting an iPad and not pay for a data sim when you can get another tablet computer for ⅓ the price which you can only use WiFi on and not have the option for 3G. If you are spending so much money getting an iPad it is worth spending the monthly fee paying for your 3G in my eyes. I can’t afford that so I got an Archos 10.1 android tablet computer for £150 which can only rely on WiFi or tether it to my 3G internet on my phone so I am not paying for two 3G contracts.

When the first iPad came out, I got mine along with an AT&T ulimited 3G internet connection. I don’t rely on any free wifi signal to get to the Internet, watch Netlix movies etc. But when it comes to downloads, some are too big that I need a wifi signal which I have at home. It’s more than two years now and I’m still enjoying my iPad deal with AT&T unlimited internet for $30.00 a month.

If you purchased an iPad now, AT&T discontinued that unlimited contract last year so you will pick plans where payment rates depend on your gig usage.

There is a wifi only version that doesn’t even have the option of monthly fees. It is Wifi only.

There is a 3G version that gets data just like a cell phone. The nice thing is it is month to month. I only ordered the 3G service when I was going to be away from home. It was trivial to have them turn it on (you do it from the ipad) and then have it off for a few months. There is no contract like a cell phone.

I did what johnpowell did. Mine is only $25 a month and I only activate it when I know I’m not going to be near my wireless fidelity.

I would like to have one for the novelty of it, but this technology is just too expensive. I expect you have to have a great job to deserve it. Oh well Ipads are not the only thing beyond my reach. Thank you all for your responces.
