(NSFW) What is the allure of OB feminine products?
What’s the allure of OB tampons? I know some people are really big fans, and there was enough of a “crisis” last year when they disappeared from stores for OB to now give everyone a singing apology, but I don’t really have any idea why people like them. What makes OB preferable to all the other tampons out there?

I never really liked them. I always thought they were kind of difficult to “install.” And supposedly the shape of them and the way they are designed, to open up like little parachutes offers more protection, from accidents and they are really tiny and easy to carry around I wanted to like them because they were so tiny and you didn’t have to figure out what to do with the applicator, but I was never very fond of them.
Funny link—thanks for pointing out the singing apology.
Apparently some folks are pretty in love with OB tampons and freaked out by their absence on the market due to manufacturing changes…
Apparently J&J had some product quality issues and were proactive in addressing them.
As for me.. I never saw the allure of OB. Sure they were small (and therefore easy to put in my purse)..but they never, uh, did the trick for me. I was always a Tampax kind of girl..until I no longer needed any of these products.
That video was hilarious!
As a loyal OB customer I appreciated it,lol. It’s the only brand I’ve ever used except when I couldn’t find it available. Plastic applicators are bad for the environment. I think that is why I chose the brand to begin with. The way they expand like a parachute to prevent leakage is good design. I never had a problem with insertion. I guess you just get used to it.
@Bellatrix Someone’s going to have to spell it out for you, aren’t they. I guess I’ll take it on. They’re these little things, shown on the bottom of the photo. They are highly vacuum packed and wrapped in plastic and have no applicator, and, and I am not going to post a picture of them “in flight” but they start out like torpedoes, and are designed to kind of “bloom,” when exposed to fluids, then they open up kind of like parachutes, supposedly, to better prevent leakage.
Oh we have had those for years. I have never heard them referred to as ‘OB’ tampons though. Thanks @lillycoyote!
@Earthgirl Ok, the environmental aspect makes sense. I guess it was not so much the preference, but the panic that confused me – I’m a Playtex Sport gal, myself, but it wouldn’t really be a big thing if they disappeared for awhile.
@Bellatrix Over here, they’re made by OB, but I don’t know who makes them in Australia.
@lillycoyote Don’t they all expand into parachutes? Like this angel?
@Bellatrix I thought the visual would be helpful. I figured that they would probably be available in Australia.
@Aethelflaed Sweet. One year in college we decorated our dorm Christmas tree with birth control devices. I don’t really remember where or how we got them all, I don’t think they were used, but we had colored condoms, diaphragms and Lippy’s Loops all over the thing. I’ll have to ask my friend. I think maybe we got expired devices from the student health center but I’m not sure.
Allure? I’ve never considered tampons to be alluring. haha
I’ve also never liked OB or tampons of any kind. I used pads forever unless I wanted to go swimming. I think tampons are unhealthy.
@Aethelflaed Playtex does expand that way, or similarly at least, but tampax and kotex don’t.
Are there any other brands without applicators? I hate the applicators; that’s the reason I use OB.
The singing apology is hilarious!! And it comes with coupons. :)
