What can you tell me about Chattanooga?
As some of you know, I work as a traveling street musician. I had the crazy idea to go to Chattanooga for the winter to try my craft. I know nothing about the place, other than the song.
Is there any sort of arts community? Is there a nice main st. with locally owned shops? Is it possible to find housing? Are there current street musicians? Are there a lot of tourists? Will people laugh a Massachusetts girl out of town?
Thanks!

There is a nice downtown area. I have only been there once for a day, so I don’t know if there are street musicians. I live in Memphis, and I would assume Chattanooga is colder than here in the winter, higher altitude, so you might want to check the average temperatures, make sure you will be ok with how cold it is going to be.
It’s in a beautiful part of the state. There are mountains and rivers. The city has a thriving arts and crafts scene.
Awesome, good news so far. @JLeslie I’m going to try to do trips to Memphis and Nashville too to busk! Maybe I’ll see you!
Memphis is very music oriented, obviously, but I don’t think I have seen people performing on the streets? Not like NY and other cities. They might be very strict about permits, not sure. There is always live music playing on Beale Street, but not random places in the street. No matter what it is a great place to see. Memphis has a wonderful local theatre, Playhouse on the Square. We get Broadway tours at The Orpheum. Two Art museums, The Dixon and Brooks, the Dixon is really lovely. Graceland is a must see. Also, the Sun Studios tour is very good, and the Stax and Rock and Roll museums were ok, but if you are really into music I think you would really appreciate both of them. We have a local symphony orchestra, the Memphis symphony. If you are into politics (I can’t remember if you are on those Q’s?) the Clinton library in Little Rock Arkansas about 1.5 hours from Memphis is fantastic!
A caution, stay on the beaten path. Like any city you have to be smart about your safety.
Oh, and the Civil Rights museum is fantabulous also. It is in the very motel Martin Luther King was shot.
@JLeslie No? Why not? I love trains and old railway cars. It’s always seemed like it might be fun though maybe kind of cheesy.
