Where can I buy Visa gift cards without the added fees?

Asked by silky1 (1510points) December 5th, 2011

Ok so I’m a procrastinator and I want to get everyone Visa gift cards for Christmas. I’ve noticed additional fees of up to $6 per card. Should I just get store cards instead they don’t carry the added fees.

Give cold har cash. A nice crisp bill. Let them spend it how they want.

I agree with @JLeslie for giving cash. I’ve never seen anyone disappointed yet, especially if you can learn ahead of time to fold the money in different shapes and then gift box it.

I’ve never seen them. As for the cash idea, when my kids were young I sometimes would tightly wad 1, 5, 10, and (usually just one or two 20) dollar bills and shove tightly into a box, jar, or other container. Then I would decorate or wrap the container. It was a hit every single time.

I wouldn’t do it. Visa will ding that card at every opportunity. My dad had one that he didn’t spend immediately, and by the time that he did, there was no money on it.

Check with your bank. I am a Chase customer, and they sell me Visa gift cards for free. They do have an inactivity fee if not used in a certain amount of time (something like two years.)

I think you should do origami with paper money and give it to someone in a box.

Actually, @Nullo is right, some of the Visa gift cards take a percentage off the card every month, and the person can wind up with nothing.

Cash, you don’t have to origami it. I gave crisp cash to my neices and nephews one Christmas and they loved it. Now I usually write them a check.

I don’t think you can get them without an activation fee plus they’ll eat up $2.50 a month after the first seven months. I agree with those above; cash serves the same purpose without the restrictions.

I gave visa gift cards to the teenagers in the family to give them a quick lesson. I worked at a major bank…....I’ve never seen them for free.
