Where should I apply in NYC?

Asked by livestrong (213points) December 7th, 2011

Hi- I am a nurse who is currently working in a very small hospital in Mass. I’m dying to move to NYC and want to start applying to jobs. My first question is; what are some well known hospitals in NYC and also, I know that it is expensive to live there…...how would you suggest I go about looking for somewhere to live. ( I don’t know anyone in NYC).

Here ya go. NYC Hospitals

NYC consists of five very large boroughs and covers a vast area. First you look for jobs and when you have that narrowed down, you consider where you want to live.

NYC;

Manhattan
Queens
Brooklyn
Staten Island
The Bronx

Here are my four cents. I lived in New York for over 22 years and just relocated to PA in 2011.

1. Try the local papers to find a place. The main ones are:
New York Times
New York Post
New York Daily News

2. Manhattan is the most expensive borough to live in. Just about everything costs more there than any of the other boroughs.

3. NYC in general has a large mass transit system (bus, subway, train) which you can use if you don’t want to pay the high car insurance rates. visit mta.info to get a map of the transit systems and current fare.You can use this neat tool to get directions to anywhere in the city.

4. If you want to make sure you don’t relocate in a flood zone check here
