How do the moderators on Fluther edit user questions and answers?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) December 9th, 2011

Do they manually scroll through each question or answer? Does each mod have a certain number to meet?

What’s the process?

There are two main ways that moderation gets done. First, we look at anything that has been flagged by another user. Any user can flag any question or answer. The moderators then assess the merits of that flag. Second, we look at things as we do our ordinary Fluthering. If we come across a question that needs editing while using the site, we can send it back to the user. If we come across an answer that needs to be removed, we can remove it. We do not remove answers on questions in which we are active, however. In that case, we flag the answer and let an uninvolved moderator make the call. The only exception is spam or material that obviously violates the site’s guidelines. In the latter case, however, we still ask the other moderators to validate our decision.

Just to add what @SavoirFaire said so well, no we do not have a certain number we have to meet. There is also no set schedule. We engage in our mod duties when we happen to be on the site. With so many mods in several different times zones, there is a mod on a lot of the time.

So while we are official mods, you are unofficial mods too. If you notice something that doesn’t meet the community standards or guidelines, please flag. We won’t always agree with you, but we will usually debate anything that is borderline. It helps us if you let us know things you notice though. We can’t read every post.
