If I only drink/eat fruits and veggies, with a little bit of protein, is this a good way to lose weight?

I recently bought a juicer and I’m thinking of juicing all my fruits and veggies. I will eat protein too. Chicken, fish, and some protein powders. Is this a good way to lose weight? I will be mostly eating fruits and veggies. I will be juicing most of them too.

Juice is not the best way to eat your veggies and especially if you want to lose weight. Just eat them cooked or raw. That way your body will burn energy while it processes them. You should eat some lean protein too. That will help you to feel full and satisfied. Have a look at the Paleo diet.
The Paleo diet is a good idea.
Fruits tend to be high in sugar so you don’t want to be having too many fruit juices. For example a fruit smoothie will have more sugar in it than coca-cola.
@Lightlyseared – I know, I mean both fruits and veggies mixed with some protein.
Will I lose a lot of weight If I eat nothing but fruits and veggies? Raw ?
Depends how much you eat though still. Switching from 1000 calories of chocolate to 5000 calories of potatoes will not do the trick…
@bongo – I hate potatoes! You’re right. I guess I really am on the caveman diet.
I eat smaller portions. There’s no way I would think about eating 5000 calories of anything haha.
@partyrock no. Not necessarily. My point was its perfectly possible to eat a diet of nothing but fruits and vegetables and put weight on. As a general rule it does not matter what you eat it matters how much you eat.
@Lightlyseared – I’m still eating smaller portions though. I’m thinking of doing this diet because of the lower calories. And how much you exercise it off.
The chances are you will be hungry if you only eat fruit and veg @partyrock. Eat some real protein too and you won’t feel so hungry. Also protein (and I am not expert) is important for the maintenance of your muscles I believe. Use protein shakes when you are on the run, but again, eating protein in its original form (meat/eggs) means your body has to work to process the food. Shakes don’t take a lot of energy to process.
Go back to basics. No processed food (no bread/pastry etc.). Eat vegetables (cooked or raw), minimise the starchy veggies (potato), include protein (watch your portion size), drink lots of water (helps your body work better), eat five to six small meals a day rather than say three bigger meals, eat breakfast (do not skip breakfast!!), and get some exercise (formal and informal). You will loose weight but in a healthy way. Don’t look at it as a weight loss ‘diet’ but rather a new way of feeding your body for life. You can eat fruit, but don’t go crazy with the fruit and watch the type of fruit (limit bananas and grapes).
@partyrock You really should not eat a diet without protein. Your body will start cannibalizing its own tissue, and you will likely pass out. You need protein for maintaining muscle tissue.
@Bellatrix – I said mostly fruits, veggies, AND protein. (chicken and fish)
@marinelife I did not say I would not** eat protein, I said mostly and a lot of fruits and veggies.
I said fruits, veggies, and some protein. I would never cut protein out my diet.
@partyrock Sorry, I was going by this: Will I lose a lot of weight If I eat nothing but fruits and veggies? Raw ?
If you want a plan that is basically what you are saying, then read The Food Tree . It is an easy plan to follow and includes just about everything except white carbs and processed foods.
Too much fruit sabotages a diet because of the high sugar content. Some is fine but don’t overdo it. And as @Bellatrix says, juicing is a waste of time, your head is going to think your belly is fuller if you chew the food instead of drinking it. And if your head thinks your belly is full then you won’t be hungry!
And if you want to learn, stop arguing and listen to what is being said.
@rooeytoo – I wasn’t arguing I was saying I was going to eat proteins too. I was listening to what was being said.
Eliminating several food groups from your diet is not a good idea. If you simply eat smaller portions of a variety of food, you will be better off.
If you want your weight loss to be permanent then you should follow @YARNLADY ‘s advice. Any extreme alterations to your diet may net you weight loss to begin with but then you’ll go back to your regular way of eating and gain it all back again.
The best way to lose weight is to eat fewer calories that you need in a day and exercise (I know that’s a dreaded word).

running – is best thing to lose weight…
I started juicing 4 months ago and have lost weight and my health has improved so much that I am in shock. I had also switched to just eating Organic, I seem to be less hungry and even though every blue moon I treat myself to a goodie here and there , I just do not gain weight as I did eating processed food.
