Republicans and conservatives: is there someone, somewhere, that you would really like to see enter the race for President, other than the current candidates?

Asked by lillycoyote (24875points) December 14th, 2011

A member of Congress, a Governor, a Mayor, a business leader, anyone, anywhere? Is there someone out there who you think would make a good President and would love to see toss his or her hat into the race? Someone you could really get behind and feel enthusiastic about?

I’m most certainly an unapologetic and unrepentant liberal and I really, really don’t mean this to bash conservatives and the Republican party, but the current field seems to be a really motley crew of religious zealots, radicals, nitwits and nut cases, to be honest. Where is the Republican party hiding all the thoughtful, intelligent, true conservatives?

He is a democrat, but I would like to see Zell Miller from Ga run.

Not really, but I would like to see the GOP pull their collective heads from wherever they have been storing them and nominate Ron Paul rather than handing the election to Obama by making the unthinkably horrific mistake of running Gingrich.

Heck, I would even be satisfied with a Romney/Paul ticket.

(Gingrich???? Never underestimate the capacity for stupidity within a major political party!)

@YoBob I certainly didn’t intend to imply that the Republicans have a monopoly on stupidity. There is more than enough stupidity to go around, in both major political parties.

I’d like to see Jerry Sanders run. A Republican with a gay daughter and is accepting of that. So I like the balance of sexual preference unaffecting the fiscal matters, a conservative who knows about progressive roots as well as monetary handling. But I’d also like to see the Republican party fold.

I completely agree @YoBob.

?uestion for you. My brother thinks Dennis Kucinich as Ron Paul’s running mate. What say you about that? I’m on the fence.

BTW… RP is definitely going to get the nomination. Can’t you feel the wave? He’s built such an incredible grass roots effort that is just now beginning to be mobilized on the public front. RP is about to explode like no other in history. Mark my words.

Colin Powell?

It would be nice if Ron Paul were running, but the press would probably ignore him.

So…is Chris Christie out of the question?~

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

haha can anyone believe there was a time when Donald Trump was considering running? Hahahaha…

Sorry @lillycoyote… I keep clicking the GQ button but it only allows for one. I’ll try again… Nupe, just one sorry.

Great Question!

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies It’s the thought that counts darling.

I’d rather have seen Peeweee Herman than Herman Cain @FutureMemory.

WestRiverrat's avatar

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies never seriously, like someone else said Trump dropped out right after his show ended for the season. He was just in it for the publicity.

I would have liked Cain to be in it, just because he is not the normal cookie cutter candidate. But he blew it by not keeping his pants on, that only works for the established candidates of both parties.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

He blew it by not being forthcoming to the accusations. He only discussed the issue to the degree he was uncovered layer by layer by layer until the onion of truth was so horrific that he dropped out crying fowl against everyone else for picking on him. Poor thing.

SavoirFaire's avatar

As far as Cain goes, this says it all for me.

I liked Gary Johnson the best but I’ll be pulling for Ron Paul now. It would be nice to see Paul get the GOP nomination and choose Johnson as his running mate. Outside of these Republicans I can’t see myself pulling for any of the others as most of them have too much of an authoritarian streak.

Mike Bloomberg (mayor of NYC)

@WestRiverrat – Zell isn’t much of a democrat any more. He burnt his bridges several years ago. But he wasn’t a bad governor at all.

YoBob's avatar

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies – Not sure who I would want as Ron Paul’s running mate. Problem is that the press seems to be actively ignoring all but the favorites of the two major parties. I guess what I would really like to see is Condi Rice come out of retirement and do either a Rice/Paul or Paul/Rice ticket.

YoBob's avatar

@lillycoyote – Amen to the stupidity thing within the major parties!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

If our local congressman weren’t so damned ancient, I would back him in a presidential race in a heartbeat!

WestRiverrat's avatar

@elbanditoroso he isn’t a liberal democrat, but he still counts himself as a democrat.

Trump. Get your squirrel butt in the race already!
