What does it mean when instead of a specific website, you get their hosting domain?

I am trying to retrieve research material from a particular site. The site has been bought by another organisation. People have been given until a time in January to remove their data. Yesterday, I could not access my data at all (major scare) and today, it was there for about three minutes (giving me a great sense of relief) and then suddenly, the site disappeared and now I just get the site of the domain the site was hosted on (even greater major scare!).
What is this likely to mean? I have no idea how domains work. Could the site just be down or could it be more ominous than that? I know I am asking for crystal ball responses here but someone who knows about domains and how they work might be able to provide some form of general explanation.

“Cloud storage” sites are great for sharing information with a group of colleagues. But never use them as a repository for irreplaceable data. Always have a copy of your data on your own computer, along with backup copies under your own control.
Sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear…
Can you post a link to a screenshot of the site, or just a link to the site so that we can see what you are talking about?
From what you have said, it sounds like the website is down. You would have to wait until they put the server back online, which may not ever happen. The next time the site loads, it may be the new website.
Also sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear, but that is the risk with any cloud storage site.
Thank you @PhiNotPi
This is supposed to be a twitter archiving site called Twapperkeeper. They have been bought out. They gave people until 6 Jan to retrieve our archives. This is what I get today. http://twapperkeeper.com/create2.php
And @HungryGuy, I didn’t use a cloud storage site, or not knowingly. TK is the only site I have found to archive tweets through. I am working on an alternative but I want the data I have collected so far.
@Bellatrix Yep, the website is down and the server offline. All bets are off on whether or not it will come back online. You may get lucky, I would keep checking the website for a few days to make sure that it doesn’t come back.
Thanks @PhiNotPi it came back .. but is a bit unreliable… it did come back though and I am collecting my stuff as I can.
Thanks!
