I want to start a red wine regimen. Which bottles would you recommend?
I want to drink red wine for heart benefits.

For varieties I would start with a New York State Finger Lake Pinot Noir.
Take a look at this. Pick a couple varietals you think you might like and go buy a mixed case of them.
To start, in terms of mix, I’d try two varietals, six bottles of each, split by cost. Try to keep regions similar within the varietal. You can also compare labels. BV for example makes a “costal” as their cheaper wine. Pick up a Merlot from their standard label and their coastal label then compare the two side by side (keep the years the same too). Same for their Cab.
Once you get a better feel for what you like in terms of varietal and cost you can start branching out by region and country. Or you could do the reverse and just pick up a dozen random Argentinian reds for example. Taste them all, see which ones you like best, then go ask your merchant for recommendations based on your preferences and price range.
Some people also use point ratings from magazines such as Wine Spectator and others to pick what they want to try. That can be handy in identifying flavors and finding common themes in taste, but I’ve never found it overly useful. Just like movie critics everyone has their own sense of what’s “good”.
Get a box…..it would stay fresher longer, if you just had a glass a day.
If you aren’t familiar with red wine, you might want to see if any of the liquor stores in your area have wine tastings. Then, go to one of those and find a red wine that you like.
My husband recommends trying an Apothic Red first.
