What makes political parties and religions split?

Asked by inunsure (423points) December 16th, 2011

In any political party there’s a spectrum of views what causes parties to split off from another party?

Why does it seem in most countries there are many more liberal parties than conservatives? Why have more liberal parties split off?

Well, by definition conservatives aren’t looking for new ways of doing things. They cling to existing or prior models. Progressives are more willing to explore new paradigms and depart from tradition.

I disagree that there are more liberal parties. There are just as many conservatives nuts as there are liberal ones.

There are six major conservative parties in Israel as opposed the three major liberal parties.

If the liberals are the ones splitting, it is probably because of a difference of opinion on where the “line” is. Where is the intersection of human morality and liberty. (Or in the case of religion, Grace or sin.)

Opinions, preferences, ideals, traditions, methods of operation, wishes for change, wishes to hold on to the past. These can be small things or large. If a number of people disagree on the way things are going, they may split and form their own group. As they say, it’s a free country.

All parties have different opinions on loads of things why do some policies result in splits and other not? Psychologically what makes people feel like they are different enough to create a different group?
